All Star Custom Kitchens is the Northern Pittsburgh area’s premier solution for your kitchen renovation and remodeling needs! Family owned & operated. We specialize in affordable, Amish custom-made cabinetry. We offer in-home consultation free of charge and work with the needs of your family. Unlike many other companies, you deal directly with our owner on every aspect of the project.

"Just want to take a moment and leave a glowing review for Tom and the entire crew at All-Star Custom Kitchens. It took us a long time to find the right contractor. After a number of construction company estimates and meetings with interior designers, we found Tom. He gave us by far our most complete estimate, design, and drawings to help us envision our kitchen, which involved removing an entire wall as well as eliminating an odd half bathroom. This accommodated an almost completely new floor plan which tripled our kitchen size and moved our dining room. I honestly can’t think of any criticisms throughout the whole process. Tom was honest and fair, the project was completed quickly to the highest of standards, and the cabinets we ended up going with are perfect. There were also multiple contractors Tom helped collaborate with including custom wood to match our existing 1940s floors and a tile backsplash that is just exquisite. I would 100% recommend All-Star Custom Kitchens!"

In 1963 Jack Lees first opened Kitchen Fair in a small showroom in the Pines Plaza Shopping Center in Pittsburgh's North Hills. It wasn’t long before he moved to a larger (and the most recent) location at Elfinwild Road & Route 8. In 1964 his son Jim joined him and worked his way through all aspects of the business and eventually into sales. In 1979 Jack retired & sold Kitchen Fair to Jim who, to this day, owns the business. Family owned & operated.

"Hired to install new kitchen cabinets, countertop and sink. Project required removal of bulkhead and creative solutions for drain pipe in bulkhead space. Eric at Kitchen Fair was very knowledgeable and his design made best use of the space in my small kitchen. They were reasonably priced, as we had some ridiculous estimates from others for the same quality cabinets. They adhered to the project time line from ordering/receiving materials to installation of the cabinets and counter top. Their Installers (Adam and Bill) were meticulous and did an excellent job. Very pleased with the work. Would definitely recommend this company for kitchen installation."

"If you are considering a kitchen/bathroom remodel please read this review. Our kitchen renovation project was started on May 7th. We are now on the cusp of entering the 5th month for this project and our kitchen is still not completed. To make matters worse I haven’t seen ANYONE from Brookside for a MONTH! We had sent an email to the construction manager and never received a response. The sad thing is that this was an ongoing experience during our remodel. They would work for a couple of days and then I wouldn’t see nor hear from anyone for a week +. (This happened way more then we would have expected). The only way I got them to show up was to continually call. I would have to call repeatedly to get my microwave hooked up. I would have to repeat the process to make sure someone was going to hookup our stove, plumbing, etc. I’ve paid 60K so far and I had to be a pseudo project manager! I now have my existing hardware floor cracking because we have been waiting for Brookside to finish the floor with a transition piece. I still have live wires exposed and holes still left in the wall. FOUR months and I still do not have all of my appliances hooked up in my kitchen. Cabinets that came in damaged still have not been replaced. It pains me to write this review but I honestly don’t know what to do at this point. This project has totally been mismanaged and communication has been nonexistent! I will say that the workers who have performed the work have been good to work with. The cabinets that we ordered we are happy with and Classic Rock, who performed the fabrication for the granite did an AWESOME job! (We did not have a conventional layout). If Brookside would have completed this project in a reasonable time frame (I was originally told they would be finished around the 4th of July) then I would have had a much more positive experience."

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace old kitchen cabinet hinges with soft close, and it’s a great DIY project you can likely tackle in a weekend. Installing soft close hinges first involves removing the cabinet doors and old hinges with either a screwdriver or power drill. The next step involves drilling a new hole for the new hinges, following the manufacturer’s instructions. It’s a fantastic way of upgrading standard cabinet hinges and giving a more custom feel without the expense of replacing your cabinets.

Common options include solid wood, plywood, and MDF. Choose based on durability and budget.

Kitchen cabinets can hold a whopping 500 pounds, but that is only possible if you attach them correctly. They must be anchored securely with long screws driven straight into the wall studs for solid support. Depending on your cabinets and the installer, some upper cabinets use specialized hanging systems or brackets for extra reinforcement, ensuring they stay put no matter how full they get.

Preparation is the most crucial and, really, the only secret to a lasting paint job on laminate cabinets. Paint will peel off laminate surfaces that aren't clean and grease-free. Paint will also peel off if there isn't proper etching on the cabinet surfaces. Taking time to deep clean and lightly but thoroughly sand before priming and painting will greatly increase your chances of success and help keep the paint from peeling.

Removing kitchen cabinets can vary in difficulty depending on factors like experience, the cabinet's installation method, and any obstacles or complexities involved. Generally, it's a moderately difficult task that requires basic carpentry skills and tools and, ideally, a helper to support the weight of the cabinets during removal. Disconnecting utilities beforehand can complicate the project, and it’s best to hire a pro if you’re not confident in your skills.
