"Cannot recommend Bib enough! He repaired three damaged plaster walls in our recently purchased home, each with a different situation (water damage, wallpaper removal damage and the third one was a hole). He worked quickly, neatly, and the walls look brand new! He’s also communicative, easy to work with, and very fairly priced."

Customers say: True professional

"We give Tony the highest recommendation. We had water damage to the ceiling in our master bedroom along with other areas in different rooms that needed plaster repair. They meticulously protected the areas they worked in. Repairs were perfect and Tony matched the pattern in our ceiling perfectly. They cleaned up the area and left no signs they were there. No plaster dust anywhere. Tony and his assistant were personal and professional. We are so happy we chose them. Perfect job at a reasonable price."

"Chuck and Frank were able to get the job done in three days. They were very punctual each day and were wrapped up by mid-afternoon each time. The first day, they were very thorough in laying down protection for our hardwood floors and the carpeted bedroom, and all the trim work, and by the end of the first day, the first coat was well on it's way. By day three we had newly plastered walls that looked like they never had been textured before. We've given it some time to cure, and it'll be ready to paint very soon."

"Excellent ‐ I currently live in a house that TrokStar Construction completely gutted and rebuilt. Neighbors often will stop by saying they can't believe it's the same house. The interior came out stunning ‐ I especially enjoy the modern kitchen and bathroom. The highlight though is probably the handed crafted fireplace mantle and frame. I would highly recommend TrokStar for any construction project, big or small."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

There are contractors specifically trained in the design and construction of retaining walls. Retaining wall contractors are skilled at dealing with the soil on your property and assessing what kind of drainage should be installed. They will recommend the best materials to use for the project and can handle the processing of permits by local authorities.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.
