"Alex, the owner of Castillo Constructions, is just such a sweet and lovely guy. I was struggling with the fact that the garage doors on my home in Oregon were starting to fall off. The wood had rotted. The rental management company that handles my property came back with an insane quote of almost $9,000 to replace the carriage doors. My "only other option," they told me, was to replace the carriage doors with an electric garage door. But the carriage doors were one of the details that gave such character to my home. I explained this to Alex. At first, his bid was not far from the original one I had received. But when I explained to him that I really couldn't pay that much, he went back to the drawing board. I am so grateful to him for getting this job done at almost half the price that competitors were quoting. "Lynn Lapping, one of the sales representatives, came to my house, measured the windows and the next day sent me a quote for blinds (Hunter Douglas Applause Line). During that first visit, she was friendly and provided answers to all of my questions. Two weeks later, I contacted her to come by and measure three kitchen windows, as I am planning to put roman shades in them. Lynn came by, but she seemed off, she was rushed, impatient and a bit rude. I had recently received a quote for drapes from another company and I asked her if she thought the prices were reasonable for the type of drapes. She was annoyed and told me that I should had ask her to measure those windows during her first visit to get a quote for drapes.  However, at that time, I had no plans to put drapes there so I could not have planned for it. I ignored her demeanor and attitude, we all have bad days, and so I assumed she was simply having a bad day.
I wanted to place a deposit for the blinds on the spot but she locked herself out of their system and she could not process my payment. She told me that someone would call me to get my credit card information, but no one ever did. I called her the next day to ask for the final quote and make sure everything was ready to go, she told me she would get the quote to me later that evening or the next day. She never did. I called the following day and left a voice mail for Lynn. The office manager e-mailed me to let me know that Lynn would be out of the office due to a family emergency and that she would contact me the following week to place the order. I e-mailed her back and ask her if someone else could help me with the order as I did not want to delay the process an additional week (lead time is three to four weeks). She told me that John the company owner would contact me to process the order. All of these e-mails were exchanged on a Wednesday. The weekend came and the owner never e-mailed or called me. On Monday I e-mailed the office manager to ask if someone would be calling me to process the order. I also ask her to let me know if they could not process my order so that I could find another provider. I received the following e-mail: "We apologize for the delay. Due to the scheduling conflicts with our designers, we will not be able to assist you with your order.  We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused." 
While I understand that family emergencies do happen, it does not make sense for a business to stop because one of their employees is unavailable. I am happy that my order did not get process through this company; I can get Hunter Douglas blinds for the same price with other providers. What would have happened if I had trouble either with the delivery, installation or quality of the blinds and Lynn was not available to handle those situations? Again, business continuity is a must for a company to be successful, business can not stop for one employee.

"Jon ‘Saved the Day’ when I accidentally backed into my garage door and it was stuck open on the weekend before Christmas. Even though it was late in the day, he agreed to come out and fix the problem, since I was leaving for the Holiday and didn’t want to leave the door open while I was gone. He returned the following week and finished the job without my having to replace the garage door. I highly recommend Jon. He is knowledgeable, caring, and professional."

"Due to medical issues we were not able to start contacting painters until the end of July. That meant that some of them were already fully booked into September which meant that getting the work done prior to the rainy season was questionable. However, Taylor was more than willing to book us in and then worked to ensure that his team was able to paint our house and do the staining before the third week of September. They also agreed to replace some areas of damaged siding and flashing around a couple of windows. Taylor met with me and took information about the colors. The house is 10 years old and had three colors, a main body color, a secondary color for part of the front, and a trim color. We wanted to match the original colors, which were faded now. I want to compliment him and Miller's Paints as they did that perfectly. On the promised day they arrived to power wash the house. A few days later, again on schedule, the crew showed up on to tape and mask the windows, although they needed to hold off on the ones needing repair. The next day a painting crew arrived to begin painting. Their carpenter also arrived to begin the wood repairs. Over the course of the next 4 days there was always a team at our house engaged in the repair work and painting. As mentioned, they also stained the patio. They did a very thorough job and always masked everything and took care to avoid overspray, etc. At the end they also cleaned everything up and took trash away, including the old pieces of wood and siding."

"I cannot speak highly enough of Tom and Brad Green of Colonial Restorations. We have lived in our antique house for 16 years now, and like most old homes, some of its previous repairs were good, some not so good. Tom Green worked on this house for its previous owners, and his work was, by far, the best in the house. So, we continued to use Colonial - Tom, then Tom and Brad - as we learned the ropes about caring for an old house - our first house, old or new. Over the years, they have replaced sills and posts and beams, and rebuilt parts of our loose stone foundation. Most recently, they replaced the last original posts in our basement, (one of which was a tree trunk still with bark on it), including pouring new custom footings, in advance of our finally cementing the dirt floor. The work here is never easy - nothing is level, nothing is square - but the Greens' end result has always been beautiful - strong and made to last. Their prices are fair and without hidden costs....maybe not the lowest bid you might get, but you know it's a real bid that they will stand behind. They triage projects for us, giving us an idea of what other items will likely need attention in the next few years. We're not done with this house yet....we've never won the lottery, and there's always another repair..... and plan to use them again soon. I feel confident knowing that the next owners of this house, whoever they might be, will see the quality of the work and know that we cared enough to have the right people help us with the ongoing repair and maintenance of a 275+ year old house.
