"After 8 years of procrastinating and looking at a half finished, 'do it yourself' backyard, we decided to get a professional. We started at the Home and Garden show, where we visited System Pavers. The initial experience was great. Their rep listened to what we had and wanted, and explained their services. A home visit, super convenient to our schedule happened. Jeff spent over 2 hours listening, asking questions, walking our property, measuring, designing and explaining the process, the choices, the warranty and the cost. All of it was in line with our expectations(high), including costs. A 'start date' of a month out was quoted. Less than a week later, after a phone call seeking our OK, the project was started. Less than 10 days later, completed. The crew was professional, diligent, respectful of our neighbors and hard working. The communication was consistent and informative. And the end result, beautiful. Now, we just have to wait for this virus to pass, so we can shop and finish up the rest of the yard. We highly recommend System Pavers for your hardscape projects."

Small jobs welcome

"Jose and his crew did an excellent job on restoring my paver sidewalk. Everything about the job was of the highest quality both of the workmanship and the customer service. He said he would be here at 8:00am and sure enough he drove up exactly at 8:00am. He not only did the work that I ask him to do but he did some extra work that went beyond my expectation. I would highly recommend him and his crew."

"I was very happy with my experience with Pacific Silver Landscape and its professional owner, Jorge. The company took care of two projects: sprinkler system water flow issues and the removal of a dead tree. Jorge diagnosed the water-flow immediately and fixed it. So we looked at other coverage problems and set a date to address them. Jorge and his helper took out the hazardous dead tree and hauled off all the debris. You can hardly see a footprint of where it was. They also installed new sprinkler heads, adjusted them to insure full coverage of my lawn and worked at it until it was done right. He also explained every step of the process. I recommend Pacific Silver, and I will use its services in the future."

"Flintstone Hardscapes LLC removed an old rotten deck and framed and built a beautiful concrete patio in my back yard. The space was small and they had to remove part of a fence to get access. They were wonderful and even replaced the fence overnight so my dog could not run off. I highly suggest you give them a call at 503.837.9294 to get a quote for your next project."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

A driveway's lifespan varies by material. Asphalt driveways typically last 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last longer, between 20 and 50 years. The longevity of any driveway is affected by factors like extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, and the quality of maintenance. Regular upkeep, such as filling cracks, resealing the surface, and ensuring proper drainage, can help extend its life. For gravel driveways, regrading to fill in uneven areas every year or two is recommended.

Whether it's worth it to install a heated driveway depends on how often you'll use it, your lifestyle, and your budget. If you live in a mild climate with little snowfall, then installing a built-in heated driveway system may not be worth it. If you live in a region that experiences mild snowfall, then a portable mat could work better. However, if you live in a region with heavy snowfall, it makes sense to invest in a built-in heated driveway.

To ensure you hire a reliable and experienced paving company, you should start by finding companies in your area that have at least five to ten years of experience working in your neighborhood. Next, rule out companies with poor reviews online or a series of complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. Since driveways affect your curb appeal, you should also ask each company for references and pictures of recent work to make sure the work the company does is professional and high quality. Finally, check that the company is licensed and insured.

Generally speaking, tiles are for indoor use, while pavers are for outdoor use. The main difference between travertine tiles and pavers is their thickness. Tiles are around 1/2 inch thick, and pavers are 1 1/4 inches to 2 inches thick.

Pavers are more rugged and can handle different weather. The extra thickness on pavers also makes them ideal for high-traffic areas.

Your city or county will have guidelines about the minimum and maximum width and length of private roads. The average private road is 12 feet wide, and length, of course, depends on your property. Requirements also depend on the amount of traffic and types of vehicles your road experiences. Check with local ordinances before planning a road on your property.
