"Brandon Neustel arrived right on time and installed a level 2 charger outlet for my new electric vehicle. He is very knowledgeable about electric cars and charging circuitry and did a great job. His labor looks good, works great and was reasonably priced. I am very pleased with his work."

"Roman, the owner was johnny-in-the-spot throughout our project (a charging unit for our new plug in hybrid car). There were issues getting our unit for them to install, and Roman was very flexible and when our unit finally came, he put a team together immediately so the job would go well and quickly. He was flexible and had good ideas about the installation. We added some additional services and he got another person to help get the job done in a day. The work appears excellent, pricing was reasonable, and I can recommend them for any electrical projects in a residence."

"I had an old Pushmatic electrical panel that needed to be replaced. Charles arrived on time, very professional. He replaced the old electrical panel with a brand new 125 amp service electrical panel. Installation included new grounding rods and labeling all the circuits, and cleaning up. He answered my questions and concerns. Very pleased with his work, and he charged a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend him."

"Murphy Family Electric is an awesome company with very competent technicians and reasonable rates. They make the whole process pretty straightforward. I had used them to get my Tesla charger in 2018 (Cost: $799 including material). I was so impressed with their work that when I had a complex electrical job - installing a new 120v outlet requiring a new wire from the circuit breaker - I did not get any quotes but just booked them. That job was done very professionally as well (Cost: $949). Fast forward to Mar 2025, my tesla charger had problems with over heating and intermittent power loss. I called Murphy Family Electric and they sent a technician the same day who came and adjusted/cleaned the connections and spent 30 mins fixing the problem. And to my surprise the company did not even charge me anything for this. So on top of everything else you can add absolutely fantastic customer service to their list of attributes."

"Recently had Tony with Th3 Electric do electrical work for us, including wiring/panel upgrade work, and we were extremely happy with the experience. Tony was professional, knowledgeable, honest, and took the time to explain everything clearly. The work was done efficiently and safely, and everything looks great. It’s hard to find someone reliable these days, but Tony definitely takes pride in his work. Highly recommend Th3 Electric for any electrical needs!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Automatic gates don’t use too much electricity, and you should see a minimal effect on your utility bill. In fact, certain gate systems are entirely self-sufficient and rely on solar panels attached to or near the gate to power the motor. While a gate is large and there is a powerful motor moving it, it’s not something that sees constant use throughout the day. For most automatic gates, expect to see a utility bill increase of only around $10 per month.

The standard voltage for United States power outlets isn’t shared around the world, and neither is the shape of the power connector. This is why you need travel adapters when spending time abroad. Where the United States typically uses 110/120V outlets, outlets in Europe typically use 220/240V. Power outlets can vary in other ways around the world, too. Not everyone uses the 60Hz frequency, for example, and not everyone even uses AC power in outlets. Always do your research when traveling to see what you need.

To upgrade electrical systems in older homes, you might need to reroute new wires with lath and plaster walls. That’s because it’s more challenging to get inside the walls of an older home compared to a modern home, which usually uses drywall. But there are easier ways to level up your electrical game in an older home. For instance, you can swap out an old furnace for a new electric heat pump, or you could use a heat pump for water heating.

While the line can't be removed, a pro can place a cap on the end to stop leaks. Contact a pro for a service call and speak with them about the related costs of either capping or removing the line altogether. Capping a gas line will cost between $75 and $150 while removing it will start at $250.

The most common type of electrical outlet is a 3-prong outlet, which has two flat blades (one is wider than the other) and a round grounding pin. Older homes typically have 2-prong outlets that aren’t as safe as more modern options and are generally not up to current electrical codes.  Other outlets you can find in your home include 20A, 125 volt varieties for larger appliances like refrigerators or washing machines.

There are also GFCI outlets, which protect against electrical shock in wet areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) outlets, which protect against electrical fires caused by arcing.
