"Because of a home sale / home purchase timing issue, we had to phase our move from our old house to our new house. We originally had a different moving company lined up but they were very difficult schedule with. When they showed up, they forgot equipment that they needed to move a piano with. After completing the first part, they said they would return the next day to move the piano. Unfortunately, they were not able to schedule themselves in to come back and were somewhat difficult to work with. We called First Choice Movers to see if they could help us on short notice. They arrived on time with the proper equipment and completed the move in a very professional manner. We decided not to use our original movers for the rest of the move and ask if First Choice Movers would help us finish. There were two more days of moving and they were always prompt, professional and courteous. They worked diligently and efficiently to the point where WE felt we had to ask them to take a break before anyone got hurt. Moving is stressful enough but these guys did their part to try and keep it as easy as it possibly can. We would use this crew again."

"Thunder Movers showed up early, packed up my antique furniture carefully, and moved my household belongings from my house into a storage unit. They were reasonably priced, quick and careful. They were also patient with the fact that I had underestimated by half the amount of stuff I had! I would definitely recommend them to a friend.

"Fisher Moving is as good as it gets! Tony was extremely accommodating, and the guys were incredibly hard workers. They went above and beyond my expectations in every way - fast, smart, efficient, polite - overall great guys to help you move at a great price. I had 2 places to move in a single day and they did them both super fast - a 3 bedroom house with lots of furniture and a ton of boxes, plus a 10x7 storage unit filled to the ceiling - all moved to our new house with everything placed where we wanted. Perfect!"

"The team was responsive in planning for the move and were able to move everything in one day. They moved everything very quickly and carefully. They were properly prepared with supplies for moving to a house on a windy road in the hills of Forest Heights."

"On Point! These guys did a great job moving our families 1912 upright piano! They were on time, quick to work and clean! I would hire them to move anything now that I have seen them in action moving this very heavy and delicate piece. Thank you so much for a great job!"

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

Hiring professional movers is usually worth the investment. These moving pros have the expertise and experience to get the job done quickly and safely, saving you time and potentially avoiding damage to your belongings. Professionals are especially a good idea if you’re moving long distances or large, bulky items, like furniture, pianos, or vehicles. Pros will also know when you need moving permits based on where you live and whether or not the moving truck will block traffic.

Movers know the best way to pack different items to protect them during a move and make the most of the space in a moving truck. You can pack your belongings to save money, but there’s a higher risk of damage.

There are several effective ways to save money when hiring a moving company, primarily by handling some tasks yourself and being strategic with scheduling. Consider these methods:

  • Pack Your Own Belongings: You can significantly reduce costs by packing and protecting your items yourself. This includes wrapping delicate items, organizing them into boxes, and taping the boxes closed. You can use towels, clothes, and suitcases to pack belongings and protect breakables.

  • Provide Your Own Materials: Source free packing materials from friends and family, or reuse boxes and bubble wrap from a previous move.

  • Schedule Strategically: Book your move well in advance. Rates are often lower if you schedule your move on a weekday during the off-season, which typically runs from October through April.

  • Compare Quotes: Get moving quotes from at least three professional movers in your area. This allows you to compare services and choose the best value.

  • Ask for Discounts: Inquire if the moving company offers any special coupons or deals.

  • Purchase Moving Insurance: Protect your investment by purchasing moving insurance, especially for expensive or antique belongings.

  • Divide the Labor: While you can save money by packing, it's wise to leave the more dangerous and physically demanding work—like loading, unloading, and moving heavy furniture—to the professionals.

This depends on your specific needs and budget. If you’re looking for the most cost-effective way to ship furniture, a self-moving service that provides pods may be your best option. If cost isn’t an issue and you’re more concerned with the security of your items, you may want to hire a white-glove furniture delivery company with ironclad insurance policies to help.

Depending on the type of expense, it is possible to deduct moving costs on your taxes. For example, you can deduct for packing, crating, insurance, in-transit storage, and using a trailer. However, you cannot deduct expenses such as moving furniture, security deposits, and home buying and selling expenses.
