Yes, you can absolutely paint a wall that has skip trowel texture, but you need to make sure you have the right tools and use the appropriate strategies. First, make sure you buy a high-capacity roller with at least a ¾” nap. This type of roller will hold enough paint to make application easy, and the thick nap is more likely to apply paint over the peaks and valleys. This largely depends on your environment and how well the paint was sealed. Properly sealed chalk paint furniture that isn’t regularly dinged by toys or steel boots can last 5 years or—often significantly—longer. However, if it isn’t sealed correctly or is subject to regular wear and tear, you can expect the coat to last 3 years or less.

While you can use wall paint on the ceiling, there are some differences between ceiling and wall paint. Ceiling paint tends to be thicker, cover discoloration better, and comes in a more limited color selection. Wall paint is thinner, holds up to regular cleaning better, and is available in an almost endless variety of colors.

The two most common paint types are latex-based paint and oil-based paint. Here are some of the most significant differences between the two:

Generally, interior paint takes up to one month to fully cure. Factors like temperature, humidity, the type of paint you used, and the surface you painted over will affect how long it takes. In particularly dry areas, your paint will cure in 30 days, whereas humid locations may take more than a month. While paint may feel dry to the touch in a matter of hours, it takes much longer for it to cure, so be careful around newly painted surfaces within the first 30 days after painting.
