UPDATED OCTOBER 6, 2012:
This is an addendum to the response from Auburn Heating concerning no record or invoice not coinciding with estimates given. The quote of $400 to replace a malfunctioning Honeywell RC182C 1051was not part of any written estimate but rather a verbal estimate to gauge the honesty of said company prior to quoting and installing a new HVAC system in the house. Needless to say we went with another company. I also find it ironic that the owner of Auburn Heating and Air Conditioning who by the way has a criminal record (Geauga County Clerk of Courts Case 93C000154} would refer to this writer as a con man. They service my heating and air conditioning. I have been using them for a number of years, and get the discount and everything. They call ahead, schedule when convenience for you, call when they say they are on the way. They have been good.

I'm not sure why Copperline heating and air-conditioning, is not on the top of the list at least for me since the business is only about a block away. Brian did excellent work at a fair and reasonable price.

"We needing to replace a broken furnace in our new home recently (11/22/2021). Our home warranty would not cover it because the owner Scott told them it didn't work at all (the heat exchange was cracked) and the unit still powered on and the blower worked. However because he told them that they would not cover it. This was the start of winter so I had no choice but to have the unit financed so they would replace it at my expense instead of going through the home warranty. I paid $4k for a unit that pushes about 1/2 the BTU of my old unit and from what I can tell sells for about $1,500. It isn't even rated for the area its covering. Then it took hit "technicians almost an entire day to install it and get the thermostat working. They eventually had to call what seemed to be a senior tech over to help them. Once it was done we realized a few weeks later that we were smelling stagnant air from the basement and I examined the area and found they had cut out and removed the return duct and never reinstalled it on the new unit. So it was pulling air from the basement and our return was CUT out with the support pieces still hanging and a big hole in the basement duct. I called to get the return put back in and was told Scott would need to take a look. He came out and weeks later had still not called me to setup getting the work done. I called back again and they got ahold of Scott and he quoted me like 1800 or something stupid. This install was not just improper but has been deemed unsafe by the county inspector. Thye have been notified to fix this immedietly to be code compliant and be able to use it again. As of about 2 weeks ago we still have not heard from them about when they will resolve this."

"Started on 6/23/24 with the technician telling us we need a new unit, Told us that it was last years model so he was giving us a "deal" on it. He took a check that day for 1/2 of the cost of the unit.
June 26th the unit was installed- after having to leave several times to buy a new torch set , and some other complications.
June 29th we contacted the technician again about the unit not cooling appropriately, and that it was 80 & 78 on our Thermostats.
June 30th - technician came back out and told us he needed a part.
July 1st - part was delivered and technician came out to install.
July 2nd we contacted the technician again letting him know it is not cooling.
July 3rd - technician came out and looked at the system again, told us to give it until sat July 5th to see if it cools and then let him know
July 5th we reached out to the technician to let him know the unit isnt cooling, technician communicated that they would be out Monday July 7th.
July 7th - Technician came back out to look at the unit and it did start cooling
July 8th - we contacted the technician to explain that there was ice on the pipe by our furnace, and that it was warming up in the house
July 10th - technician comes out - does some type of adjustment with the thermostats
July 20th - contacted the technician to let them know the AC unit outside was not turning on.
July 21st Technician comes out and says a wire was loose on the unit outside thats why it wasnt working
July 22nd we reach out to the technician and tell him there is ice building up on the unit outside
July 23rd - Technician was going to come out, but we decided to get someone else to come look at the unit. - we let the technician know this.
July 23rd - new company (had to pay service fee) comes out and states that the unit is too large for our house and has lots of pictures and reading that show what is wrong with this unit. They are sending some on July 24th to come give us an idea of what needs done to fix this unit, or (hopefully not) to replace it AGAIN."

FAQs for heating and air conditioning service projects in East Canton, OH
Knowing how long your existing HVAC units can last is essential to determine if you need a repair or replacement. Typically, most modern air conditioning units can last between 15 to 20 years, and most furnaces can work properly for 15 to 30 years. If your HVAC system is on the older side and you decide to replace one unit, it might make sense to replace both simultaneously to save on costs and future hassle.
While different HVAC contractors might offer higher or lower prices than competitors, the best time to replace your HVAC system is when customer demand is low. The beginning of summer and the beginning of winter bring the most demand for HVAC systems, so if you can, consider replacing your HVAC units in the early spring or fall. Many HVAC companies offer special off-season coupons that help lower the overall cost.
The average cost to hire an HVAC contractor is between $50 and $150 per hour if charging hourly. However, some HVAC contractors will charge a flat fee by the type of service they are performing—for example, an inspection can cost between $150 to $500. Keep in mind that emergency repairs—which are made after business hours or around major holidays—generally cost more than scheduled repairs.
Yes, most states require HVAC technicians to be certified, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed HVAC technician could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The average cost of HVAC repairs is around $350. However, that price can be as low as $100 or as high as $2,000 or more, depending on the repair. For example, replacing a capacitor is a relatively inexpensive repair, ranging from $100 to $500. However, a compressor repair is a more expensive repair, ranging from $750 to $2,000.
