Capitol Fence was founded by Jim Bassard in 1957, and was ran as a family business until August of 1980 when it was bought by Robert Hulvey, and is still run as a family business. Capitol Fence is now the oldest family-owned fence company in the Columbus area including Franklin and Fairfield Counties. With our recent move to Canal Winchester we want to give the home owners and businesses of Fairfield County the same high level of service that our repeat customers have come to know and trust. Put our almost 50 years of experience to work giving you a quality fence that will give your loved ones and pets a safe secure yard for years to come.

"Bob and the Capitol team do superb work. The quality of the work is top-notch and their customer-centered approach is always evident. When our neighbors saw our fencing they too pursued Capitol. I strongly recommend this company. You may find less expensive options, but I doubt that you will find higher quality work."

"It went well. Dave was very professional to deal with during the construction of our deck and keeping us informed of changes. The carpenters, Cyle and Dakota were fantastic. They built the deck from the footers to completion of railings, decking, privacy panels and steps. They too were very professional, always ready to answer our questions and listen to our input. They showed up early, worked quietly and cleaned up their equipment after every workday. The project was scheduled to take about 3 weeks but because of manufacturing delays in material shipments took about 9 weeks."

"I am extremely disappointed with my decision to use Lannis Fence. Kyle seemed great and knowledgeable during the sale. I was told 8-10 weeks on the schedule, we left our nearly $5,000 deposit, then it went downhill. For starters I reached out in mid July for pictures from Kyle to get my HOA approval. I waited over a week for a response and heard nothing back and had to follow up. Then waited 2 days for an email with 1 picture. I waited 8 weeks before reaching out to see where I was at on the schedule (early August). At that point I had heard nothing from anyone at Lannis. I texted Kyle on August 5th, 6th, and 10th before finally getting a response that he would have his project manager call me the next morning (August 11th). The next afternoon came and I had heard nothing so I sent a reminder text to Kyle to have Tom call me. I got no response. So on August 12th I called their main office and asked for Tom. He told me it'd be at least mid September before they'd start, at the earliest. He didn't seem to care at all that they were exceeding the timeline by over 5 weeks. I decided to call back and see what the penalty would be to cancel my contract. Brent (Kyle's brother) called me back and convinced my to keep my contract and got me in the schedule for August 23rd. A few days before the install I got a call from Tom letting me know utilities would be marked out and that the install crew would be out before 10am on Monday, August 23rd. Since Lannis doesn't meet with their own install subcontractors to walk them through the scope, I had to take off work in the morning to meet with them. I waited until after 10:30am on the 23rd and heard nothing. Called the office and was told the crew was at the shop picking up the materials and would be out within a half hour. They didn't show up until 12:30. I walked them through everything, they unloaded some materials and said they would be back to get the corner posts set. They never came back or communicated that they wouldn't be coming back. So fast forward, after taking 3-4 days longer than I was told to install, the fence was finally up and good for the most part. 4 of the posts were installed in the wrong location. The crew moved upon my request (I had showed them where they go twice, and Kyles drawing specified very clearly). They cut the posts with a chainsaw 4-5 inches above ground level and covered in dirt to try to hide it. They also installed the incorrect hinges and broke my hose holder that was mounted on my house. Then I waited over 4 weeks (September 26th) before I reached out and demanded the posts that were installed in the wrong spot be dug up (see photos), and also tried to find out what the rest of the process was. Kyle responded this time, and apologized and said he would have Tom call me in the morning. On the night of the 27th I let Kyle know I had never heard from Tom. Then again on the 28th. Instead of calling me, Tom deflected to their subcontractors to call me. Great manager. A couple no shows later and the correct hinges finally got installed. Now my gate posts look like swiss cheese and they rub quite a bit. Once things were finally done I reached out to Kyle to see if he could bring the final invoice down a bit for all of the communication and execution issues. He thought I deserved something back as well and would talk to his brother Brent to discuss an amount and get back to me on Monday. This was September 30th. Fast forward to October 18th and I had heard NOTHING yet. I texted Kyle on October 18th, no response. I texted Kyle on October 20th, no response. I texted Kyle on October 22nd at 8:30am, nothing. Then in the afternoon before getting a response that he was in quarantine for COVID. Because a 10 day quarantine justifies no responding for over 3 weeks... He told me he'd have Brent call me. Nobody ever called. Now on Thursday November 11th I received an email that my invoice is past due. I text Kyle immediately and surprise, no response. It's now 11/14 and I'm still waiting for an answer."

"Jeremi of PNR Excavation provided excellent service! They removed my stone planter and retaining wall hauling away debris. I was greatly impressed. They were to start project Sunday morning and couldn't make it... but he surprised me when his brother came Saturday afternoon to complete task. Wow! I've had several contractors fail to keep appointments. Jeremi is an honest man who kept his word! That speaks volumes of his character and being a man of his word. I highly recommend PNR Excavation, and will contact them to install front concrete sidewalk from porch to street. You cannot go wrong with PNR Excavation. Very friendly family business worthy of your business! Thanks and congratulations Jeremi and PNR Excavation for a fantastic job! I'm definitely keeping your number for future projects and recommendations! Respectfully. George Cunningham ?"

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

For homeowners concerned about security, an electric gate may offer peace of mind. Electric gates will require a code or remote to open, so you don’t have to worry about young children getting out of the yard or someone breaking onto your property by simply swinging open the gate. But because it needs power to operate, installing an electric gate will be more complex and expensive.

Fence gates sag because they have no support on the latch side of the gate to help hold them aloft. A gate wheel fixes that problem by providing support for that latch side. Remember that the ground must be level in front of the gate so the wheel can roll freely when you open and close it. If the terrain is uneven or slopes, a gate wheel won’t work.

If you don’t have a lot of clearance, a sliding gate can save space. But keep in mind that sliding gates may require more maintenance to keep in operating condition, and swinging gates are often less expensive.

Depending on your needs and wants, investing in a security door can be well worth the cost. Now that you know the pros and cons, you can decide if it’s a purchase that makes sense for your family. If you’re ready to have one installed in your home, look into security door installers in your area.

The average cost to install a gate is around $2,300, but you could pay between $200 and $7,000, depending on a few factors. The most significant cost factors to consider are the gate type of gate you want installed and the gate material. Automatic gates leading to your driveway will usually be the most expensive options, given the size and weight of the gate, as well as the added cost of the electronics for control. Chain-link and vinyl gates will usually be the most affordable, while aluminum and metal gates fetch the highest prices.
