"We contacted Skip after several failed attempts with another builder. Wow, what a difference! Our old split railed fence was demolished and removed by Skip and his crew on the first day. There was quite a lot of work required to get the old fence posts from the concrete they were set in and from the old fence's attachment to the house but they were amazingly successful. A new vinyl fence was built in it's place. Skip advised moving the double gate to the other side of the house. We were hesitant but now are extremely happy we listened. He added green mesh to the back side of the fence that is virtually invisible from the street and works wonders to keep our small dog in the yard. Two gates were installed on opposite ends of the house, one double and one single. It is beautiful! The entire project was completed in 3 days, including clean-up of the fence to make it sparkle! If you are considering getting new fencing, look no further.

Thanks to Elite Fence Ohio of Newark and to Skip and his crew for an amazing job.

"When they started the project, the concrete which was already cracked, seemed to be coming up pretty well.  When that was removed, they found a lot more gravel under the concrete than they anticipated so it was an additional time and expense to remove that.  The garage sill had to be repoured and they began installing the correct type of gravel and pounding down the base.  Being  April, it rained a lot in there and it slowed the progress as you can imagine.  Can't do much about the weather.  I also had some blocks on my garage foundation that were loose so they refilled the mortar to stabilize the foundation. This is when we found that the gutter drain pipes were broken and clogged.  They installed new piping and we cleaned out the remaining pipes before installing the pavers.  By having the "O" in the middle, it made for a lot more cuts and took some additional time but it was worth it.  They sealed the driveway and finally they installed the sod around the edges.  Along the way Jake had to deal with a major personal issue but handled it very well.  Jake and his crew did a very good job and handled all the little things that came up very professionally.  I don't know of any other contractor who would have worked with me the way they did.  In my opinion, they provided me with a great finished product and I would use them in the future.

"I would highly recommend Micah. He made an appointment for the next day after I contacted him, was punctual and very professional. I found his prices to be very reasonable. And I am extremely happy with the quality of the work. Our patios and walkway look wonderful as do the retaining walls and privacy fence. The excavation was quick and efficient, as was the removal and construction. There were a few problems that arose which were addressed and resolved .

"Luis at LP Fencing was fantastic. He texted me back same day I posted job on Angi. He came out a couple days later and immediately was prepared with tools to fix it same day. Wood gate works better than when it was initially installed. Will definitely be reaching out to Luis for our next gate, decking, drywall, or painting needs."

"They responded quickly to my request for an estimate.  The actual work started a week later.   Only one worker did all the work.  It took him 3 days to power wash both sides of the wooden fence, then one day to stain it and do the concrete work.   He was very meticulous and cleaned up after himself.   The fence looks beautiful--like a totally different fence.   Before he started, it was all grey and mildew, now it's a pretty reddish-brown cedar color.   The price was probably more than I could have paid if I'd been patient and gotten more estimates, but I'm so happy with the result that I don't really mind.

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Instead of a security door, you might opt for a heavy-duty screen door made from durable mesh, which allows better sunlight and airflow. Additionally, you could enhance security by installing strong locks on your existing door. A double-cylinder deadbolt provides robust security; however, be aware that some local laws prohibit them due to safety concerns during emergencies.

The obvious disadvantage of an automatic gate is that it runs on electricity. If the power goes out, it won’t open or close unless there’s a manual override. Many homeowners will need a backup generator so they don’t get stuck on either side of the gate, particularly when looking to park a vehicle. Automatic gates are also much more complicated than manual gates, with tech-heavy components that make them more expensive to repair.

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.

Electric gates can be forced open if someone applies enough force to the edge furthest from the mounting bracket. You can reduce this risk by adding an electric lock to your gate opener. However, automatic gate openers generally help deter intruders, especially when paired with outdoor lighting and security cameras. Other home security tips include trimming trees surrounding the area for added visibility and installing motion sensors in your yard.
