"I highly recommend A and P plumbing! I woke up to a soaking wet carpet in my family room. I called A and P plumbing and Don answered. I explained my emergency and he asked me a few questions about the situation. He and Bill came out same day a found the leak in my crawl space and fixed the issue immediately. Both gentlemen were professional and respectful. I now have this company on speed dial incase of any future mishaps. 5 star all the way! THANK YOU DON AND BILL FOR SAVING THE DAY"

"I literally had, not only black mold, but mushrooms growing in my basement due to the high moisture and water coming up from the cracks. after doing a lot of research on basement waterproofing, EverDry was the only company whom I thought did the job â the right wayâ . Other companies wanted to put the water track on top of the footer of the house (which makes no sense). EverDry put in a system similar to a French drain which took care of 75% of my basement problem. Then they tackled the outside problem. The foreman and his team were courteous and knowledgeable. True that theyâ re not the cheapest option out there, but theyâ re worth every dollar. I would definitely call EverDry again for another house or recommend them to another person in the same situation."

"Basement Worx was on time every day, and dealt with the difficult dirty work very well. They addressed foundation cracks, put in the new drain system, and installed a sump pump with battery backup. Lonnie and his crew were great to work with."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

The cost to unclog a drain varies based on the location and severity of the clog. For simple clogs within your home, such as in a sink, toilet, or shower, hiring a plumber typically costs between $110 and $350, with an average of around $200. Snaking a toilet or sink usually costs between $110 and $275, while a bathtub or shower clog costs about $225.

For a more serious clog in the main sewer line, the cost is higher. Clearing a main line clog generally costs between $200 and $600, with an average of about $380. However, prices can range from as low as $100 for snaking a minor clog to over $1,600, particularly if advanced methods like video inspection and hydrojetting are needed for a large or hard-to-reach blockage. Some severe main line clogs can cost upwards of $1,000 to clear depending on factors like the cause of the clog, its distance from an accessible cleanout, and whether the pipe is located beneath an occupied space (e.g., in an apartment building). You may be able to save money on minor clogs by using a drain snake or bladder yourself.

Liquid drain cleaners are harsh chemicals that can erode your pipes. To treat a slow drain or for preventative maintenance, pour hot water down the drain to break up gunk and help move it along. Make sure the water isn’t boiling hot (keep it under 140 degrees Fahrenheit) if you have plastic pipes. However, you’ll need to pull the clog out for bigger backups.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. Keep in mind that the main line is not the same as your home’s sewer lines (which connect to the main line and run to your house). Your city is responsible for any clogs or damage to the main line itself.

Pouring drain cleaner down a vent pipe isn’t recommended. First of all, unlike a clog in a sink or bath caused by such material as soap scum build-up, toothpaste, and hair, clogs in a vent pipe are likely the result of debris from trees or even an animal stuck in the pipe. Drain cleaners won’t be able to eat through this kind of material. The cleaner will only become clogged in the vent with the debris, causing even more problems.
