"Miller Construction Group did an outstanding job on our stamped concrete patio. From the initial planning to the final finish, everything was handled professionally and with great attention to detail. The craftsmanship is top-tier?the pattern, color, and overall finish came out even better than we expected. The crew was on time, organized, and kept the jobsite clean. The project was completed on schedule, and the results completely transformed our outdoor space. "I never had to deal with the unpleasant experience of having mold in my house until recently. We decided to have CMM over for an estimate and met directly with the owner, Ken. He climbed up into our attic spaces and told us exactly what we needed to do fix our problems. He was very knowledgeable and presented a plan that would eliminate and prevent a reoccurrence of the issue. We hired them. When it was time to do the work, he sent a crew of 2 gentleman (Nick and AJ). These guys were fantastic. They were polite, punctual and went right to work on solving the problems. My daughter used them for the exact same reason and she was very happy with them as well. If you have the misfortune of having a mold issue, I would recommend these guys for sure!"

"Beyond thankful for finding this company. Could not beat the price and the job was done in a timely manner and could not even tell they were here. Was expecting my yard to be a mess with all the digging and my yard looks great. No mess in my basement, either. Would definitely recommend!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Syracuse, address urgent issues like loose bricks, wide cracks, or water leaks in masonry before winter to prevent further freeze-thaw damage. Minor mortar gaps or surface spalling can often wait until spring or summer for better working conditions. Prioritize repairs after harsh winters to address new damage, and seal any gaps in the fall to prepare for snow and ice.

Helpful?

In Syracuse, loose or missing mortar, stair-step cracks in brickwork, bowing walls, or water seeping through masonry are clear signs you need masonry work. If you notice diagonal cracks across multiple bricks or water stains near the roofline, these may indicate foundation or gutter issues instead. Efflorescence and flaking (spalling) after winter are also strong indicators that masonry attention is needed.

Helpful?

In Syracuse, repair is usually more cost-effective if less than 20% of the brick or stonework is damaged and the structure remains sound. Tuckpointing and minor brick repair are ideal when materials can be matched. However, if you see widespread freeze-thaw damage, repeated repair failures, or significant settling, replacement is the smarter long-term solution. Historic homes often benefit from repair to preserve original masonry.

Helpful?

In Syracuse, always schedule masonry work when temperatures are above 40°F to ensure proper mortar curing. Wear slip-resistant boots and clear scaffolding of ice and snow during winter. Use safety glasses, dust masks, and hard hats, especially in older neighborhoods where lead paint may be present. For any brick repair or stonework above six feet, secure fall protection and check all equipment for stability before starting.

Helpful?

For Syracuse’s climate, keep cold-weather mortar mix, a stiff wire brush for salt residue, and a high-quality masonry sealer ready. Tuckpointing tools are useful for maintaining mortar joints, while tarps and heavy-duty plastic sheeting protect work areas from snow. Choose calcium chloride-based ice melt to avoid salt damage to brick and stone, and have crack filler and a dehumidifier for basement stonework during humid NY summers.
