CNY Masonry

A crew (4 or 5) came over and did the work surprisingly fast. Never having done parging it may have been fine. However earlier this year I noticed 'flaking' where the work was done. Doing some research, I determined parging should last many years. I have called twice to have some one return to inspect the work to see if I have a problem or the work was subpar. I have had no call or visit.

Jay was great to deal with. He quickly worked my project into his schedule, he and his crew did a great job. The work was done in a few days and all of the debris from the old parging was removed.

Initially they were to remove 2 cement pyramids. The price was right, and done ahead of schedule. Based on that, we hired them to repair and resurface our chimney. They did an excellent job, on time, on budget

Excellent experience. Jay came within 1-2 days of my call, listened to what we wanted and told me what they would do. He was straight-forward, clear and struck me as an honest, plain-dealing person (which was borne out by the job and total experience). He supervised the start of the work done by his crew and stopped by each of the 3 days it took to jackhammer and remove the old cement and stone, pour the new path, and complete the topsoil and seed. He checked with me on design and details as the job progressed. They even covered seed with hay and set out sandbags so the soil would not be washed away in case of heavy rain. Area was thoroughly cleaned up at the end. They also did a couple of additional tasks: patched about 6-8 foot cement and stone wall with cement, and removed approximately 3X3' cement garden basin that was no longer useable. My only suggestion to Jay would be to inform homeowners on his "look at" visit to close all windows and prepare for dust from jackhammering. (This would seem obvious but I hadn't thought about it.). I was home and able to do so before work began. Jay's price was considerably lower than a paving stone path I had estimated with a landscaping firm and this cement path looks great.

I called cny masonry to get a price on the job after the other company I hired didn't work out. Glad it didn't! Jay came out to estimate the job an had some other ideas on how to do it other than what I was going to do. It worked out better than what I was going to have done. They came out on 07/09/14 to start the job. The whole time Jay would text me to let me know how the job was going. Sent pictures also. That was cool since I was at work and couldn't be there to watch. They did all the prep work in one day and came out to pour the concrete on 07/11/14. Came out great. The concrete truck that backed on to my lawn left about a 6 inch trench along the way to get to the job. I didn't think  that was to bad, I thought that it might do some damage. I was going to fill the trench up with the dirt that they had dug up to do the job. Didn't have to. Got a text from Jay the next day saying he had a man coming over to pick up the frame from the job and put some topsoil on them. Wasn't expecting that but that was great. Did I mention I'm glad the other masonry company didn't work out!  Thanks Jay and crew.

Jay came for estimate and was able to perform work the next week.  Work was exactly what I wanted and workers professional.  They left the yard clean.  I would definitely use them again and recommended to neighbors.

Really happy that we could keep the big beautiful maple - some people thought we wouldn't be able to, but it looks just great.

Reinforced stone wall, repaired and replaced parts of stone stairway and walkway, patched loose sections of wall.

The job went very well and I was extremely pleased with the results.  From the time Jay gave me an estimate, which was very fair,  to the completion of the work Jay kept me apprised of how the project was going.  His crew was very professional.  It you are in need of masonry work and want a professional job at a fair price I would highly recommend Jay and CNY Masonry. 

First off, Jay was very quick to respond and came over to our house the very next morning after I put in a request.  However, that's really the only good thing that I can say about him.  The visit seemed to be going pretty well...he talked about some of the options that we had for the repair etc.  Just as he was getting ready to leave however, it got really weird.  He confessed to me that he had looked me up on Facebook the night before and saw that I had a third-level, indirect connection with one of his estranged cousins, and for that reason, he had doubts about doing work for me.  Then, he went on to explain that he also thought that I might be Native American, and he doesn't do work for them either because they always try to cheat him out of money.  Now, at this point I was at a loss for words (#1 - I don't know his cousin, and #2- I'm not Native American)...and had pretty much made up my mind that regardless of what quote he provided for me, I would not be hiring him.  However, I was interested in knowing what his quote might be, especially since he said that he was going to send me one, and because I had taken time out of my day to meet with him (I went into work late one morning).  However, it's been over a week since he's been here, and I still don't have a quote from him, even though I sent him a reminder email.  The whole experience was extremely awkward and frustrating.  Needless to say, I would not recommend him, based purely on a character reference.  Since I never hired him, I cannot comment on the quality of work that he does.

UPDATE: (2 days after initial review)...Jay just emailed me to tell me that he is too busy to complete the work this year, and gave me an informal quote of $3800 - 4200 to take out the gun trap out of our foundation and make the necessary repairs.  Said that if I wanted a formal quote to let him know.

We saw a hole in the wall in the corner of the basement.  The hole was probably about 6-12" wide.  We called CNY Masonry on a Saturday afternoon and Jay came to the house within a few hours to look at it an give us an estimate.  He said he could do the job on Thursday.  He came on Thursday as scheduled.  He finished on Friday morning.  He had to dig out more area of the wall and put in blocks.  The sump pump is in the same corner; he replaced the hose and cleaned out the crumbled concreted that had fallen down into the hole with the pump.  He cleaned up the area of the crumbled concrete and dust.  Very professional.

Great job. I am very happy with the results.
