I first hired Onondaga Chimney 16 years ago to have my chimney inspected on the home I purchased. On top of my annual chimney cleaning I have utilized them for a few major projects. They tore down and reassembled my 100+ year old chimney and did an amazing job. Just recently, I hired them to redo the steps leading up to the house (8 steps and a walkway) and rebuild a portion of a stone retaining wall. I am BEYOND pleased with the job they did! They even went above and beyond to repair my leaning mailbox and paint it as well. Troy, and his crew, are hard working masters of their craft. I highly recommend this company for your masonry needs.

Elderly grandparents (90+ years old) were mistreated and taken advantage of. I do not recommend Onondaga Chimney and Masonry Services. Very disappointing and unprofessional service. Customer service/treatment was unsatisfactory as well. My 90 year old grandparents retained this company to redo their chimney from roofline to crown. Brickwork was acceptable; however, concrete crown was poorly installed and cracked within days of installation and reinstallation. Owner (Troy) blamed everything/everyone else but his own work and craftsmanship. Troy and his crew had to return twice to remove and reinstall the concrete crown but only after several calls and unprofessional conduct on owners part. As an example, told my elderly grandparents to "Shut up" when they tried to speak to him about their concerns with the cracks. I had to get involved and call him myself to resolve the issues. We agreed that he would contact me before returning for the reinstallation of the reinstallation; however, he failed to call (despite claiming he did) and then left a very unprofessional voicemail for me (which I have saved). Save yourself the hassle and inappropriate treatment; find a more competent, professional and respectful contractor when looking for Chimney work.

"Mr and Mrs [Member Name Removed] called me telling me of a crack that developed in the new concrete which was pour in the top of the beautiful chimney reconstruction we did for them. We did go over to fix that problem . They called me again stating that the top was cracking and and that they wanted us to return and completely remove the top and before proceeding they wanted us to give them the concrete we placed on top and to show them the new product to make sure that indeed it was concrete. And indeed it was. Before returning the second time their grandson Little [Member Name Removed] call and was very rude and disrespecting stating that he was a Attorney and that we better get over to his Grand Parents place to fix the problem or he would make my business go upside down and continued to state he would sue my company in Court. He demanding that I call him the day before we was going to return to his Grand parents. I did try to call Little Joe but I have gotten his answering machine around 7 30 to prior morning. He states that he did not get my message and now he has a personal vendetta. In fact Mr and Mrs [Member Name Removed] was very happy upon leaving after pouring them the new concrete that they wanted.. Also as of date we have completed 3 other jobs with their neighbors and have been contracted to do 2 more of their neighbors We have been serving Syracuse for over 30 now and we take pride in our workmanship.. The only person that seems upset about this whole situation is... Little [Member Name Removed]."

The rebuild process had horrible workmanship. Had to contact BBB to get them to make some repairs only a couple months after construction. See original review in 2005. In 2018 the chimney had to be rebuilt from scratch again, by another contractor, of course. They found additional internal construction issues that could have been dangerous.

"I have explained to [Member Name Removed] that we tore the chimney down to the top of the flashing as to not disturb the seal of the flashing and all the bricks were secured and soild to that point. In which at the start of the job I was advised that the flashing was going to be replaced by his roofer. So we did not disturb the flashing as not to cause any leaks that could occurr. I have told [Member Name Removed] that I will be back in his area within a short period to pressure wash any stains left behind. In fact we do have him on our schulde for the first week of September."

Don't do business with them! The estimator showed up drunk! I gave them a down payment, but I changed my mind; I put a stop payment on the check, two hours later, and it was too late! He had already cashed the check and refused to give me my money back.

The day that they were supposed to start no one showed up. No phone call, nothing. After many phonecalls to answering machines we finally got a hold of a person who told us the start was delayed a day because of rain. The next day no one showed again. Again no phone call. We finally got ahold of the receptionist and found that the start date of the job would be pushed a week. The next day we actually received our first unsolicited phone call phone call from them telling us that they could not perform our job until next spring. We received our deposit check in the mail several days later. Overall a very poorly run business. They will not get my business in the spring.

On April 17, 2009, Onondaga Chimney provided a written proposal to power wash, reset and sand our front stoop pavers for $450. We accepted the proposal and scheduled the work to be completed on June 11, 2009. When the work crew showed up on that date, Troy Gregory judged that the job had been underbid and demanded an additional $300. We stated that we expected the company to honor its written proposal, and Gregory has since refused to communicate with us.

We had our roof replaced last year. Afterwards, we needed to get the parging (stucco) redone on the chimney. I called Onondaga Chimney and they came out to complete the work. Unfortunately, within a few weeks the parging was cracking and pulling away from the chimney. It was coming off in 8-10 inch sheets! So, we had them back to re-do it and they agreed that it wasn't done properly. They came to redo it a few weeks later, but soon afterwards the same thing happened again. It was a horrible job and when I called the owner to complain and asked him to come look at the problem and try to resolve it, he refused. When I said that I wanted my money back the owner was rude and hung up on me. I still can't believe that this company can stay in business with such terrible work and such an unbelievable lack of professionalism. To top it all off, someone called me recently from this company and asked if we needed any more work done! When I told the person on the phone what happened and that I would never have them do any more work...ever, he said that he would look into the matter and call me back-which he never did.
