"Great choice overall. Peter and Jamie were prompt, welcoming, and willing to listen to our specific needs. We had our initial drawings within a few weeks and we are now moving towards bringing the design process of our new home to fruition."

"So happy we chose R&D for our exterior wall repairs! they were great to work with throughout the process of what turned out to be a complicated issue. Their communication was really appreciated as they dug into things and problem solved some unique issues with how the previous home owners had cut corners on the house. R&D wasn’t the cheapest initial bid we received but I have no doubt that we would have wound up paying more in the end for a lower quality result with anyone else. Thanks guys!"

"Rich was great and very professional. The blueprints were promptly delivered and he did a great job working with the town regarding some requested changes. If I need an architect in the future, it will be Rich. In fact, we did recommend him to our son regarding his building project, and he is just as pleased. Rich is based in Syracuse and we are in Rochester. He came to our home, so don t let a little distance concern you."

"Very well. The installers did a great job. I have had a few issues this past year with a screen and a broken part on one window. Mike- who does their service- does a great job! He is very professional, prompt and conscientious."

Architects questions, answered by experts

Cathedral ceilings make a statement in your home, but at the cost of your attic space. Normal attics are wide open, which allows warm air to move around and exit your home. Because of this, cathedral ceilings make your home less energy efficient and put your ceiling at risk of venting issues if you’re not careful. They also reduce your attic storage space, potentially cause an echo, and even make it harder to change a light bulb.

While you will always work with a team of professionals at some point during your home build, homeowners with experience can take on some part of the process. Manage the initial brainstorm, brief writeup, and floor layout phase with minimal assistance before contacting a general contractor. And while you can purchase stock blueprints for some home designs, it's always best to speak with professionals when choosing one ideal for your property.

Designs typically take 2-6 months, depending on factoring, project size, and customization needs. Larger or more complex designs may require additional time for approval and revisions.

Drawing your own floor plans is acceptable for many kinds of projects, including interior design and room layout. You can use floor plan software to create the plans but keep in mind that the floor plan will only be as accurate as the measurements you take and enter into the software.

Yes, designers collaborate with contractors and engineers to ensure a smooth construction process.
