"Elias came on time and did extensive plaster repair and painting including wall, window sill and frame, radiator. He also made good on my punch list. His second job was for three hallway areas needing the same. He was very friendly and accommodating, and even did some extra work for free that was not originally agreed on. He finished early the second time, and he did great work on both jobs."

"Aldo, did a terrific job and repairing the tiles in the bathroom shower and grouting them so that water would not leak to the basement. He also closed the hole in the ceiling with new sheet rock. Great job highly recommend Aldo"

"I hired HD renovations to remodel my bathroom. It came out beautiful. I am so happy with it. He was recommended by a friend. Dominic, the owner was on site the whole time he makes a job very personal for him and he takes care of things that I did not see you gave me recommendations which was a big help of not making future mistakes. I find this a great value. I would definitely use him again. Great job Dominic."

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

A major mistake homeowners make during plaster repair is using standard drywall compound on historic lime plaster. This incompatible material fails rapidly in humid Queens weather. Another critical error involves fixing cracks without addressing the root cause, such as a plumbing leak or aging brick mortar. Finally, sanding or scraping older NY walls without following strict lead-safe practices creates severe health hazards for your family.

Helpful?

Completing plaster repair significantly boosts comfort in older Queens homes. Intact plaster walls block out heavy street and transit noise much better than patched drywall. Because NY summers are highly humid, restoring original lime plaster helps manage indoor moisture and prevents mold growth. Fixing cracked walls also seals out winter drafts and safely secures aging paint layers, keeping your living space quiet, comfortable, and healthy year-round.

Helpful?

When hiring local professionals for plaster repair in Queens, watch out for quotes lacking a verifiable physical address. Avoid contractors who promise excessively fast timelines, as proper three-coat plaster requires adequate drying time. A reliable quote must clearly distinguish between historic plaster restoration and standard drywall patching. Furthermore, professionals must explicitly include lead-safe work practices for older NY homes and account for matching your specific wall texture.

Helpful?

Combining plaster repair with other renovations creates excellent efficiency for older NY homes. If you have original wood windows causing moisture damage, replace them simultaneously to prevent future wall cracking. Upgrading outdated electrical wiring or replacing aging plumbing pipes while the walls are already open prevents tearing into fresh plaster later. You should also add modern insulation into exposed wall cavities to vastly improve your Queens home’s energy efficiency.

Helpful?

In older Queens homes, ceilings are the most common areas requiring plaster repair due to decades of temperature swings breaking down the original lath keys. You will also find frequent cracking around window and door frames from seasonal wood movement. Additionally, interior plaster on exterior-facing brick walls suffers damage from NY weather and moisture infiltration. Finally, walls adjacent to aging plumbing in kitchens and bathrooms require regular attention.
