"I've used The Standard Clean Outs twice. The most recent project was a truly horrendous one involving the removal of items from a hoarded house. Furniture, appliances, books, clothing, and accumulated garbage was hauled out in a very efficient and helpful way. It was very emotional for me to do but it had to be done and Nick and his crew were exceptional, patient, and kind. I would not hesitate to hire The Standard Clean Outs in the future."

"Joe and his crew were amazing! They got a job done that no other pro before them was able to complete. I needed a very old antique heavy steel furnace taken up from the basement and hauled away. It took three of them (big strong guys) to wrestle it up the stairs and it was so tight they had to take the basement door off the hinges. These guys were VERY PROFESSIONAL, polite and friendly. They left the worksite clean. A job that others had given up on, they worked together and got it DONE. I would use them again without hesitation. Also, Joe is an excellent communicator and kept me updated on his arrival time, which I greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe and crew!!"

"I found David on Angie list and he got back to me immediately. I explained what I needed done and I had an estimate within3 hours. He is very affordable and was able to come the following week. They arrived on time. Very efficient, made sure everything was cleaned up before they left. I will be hiring him again for another project that I will be doing. Definitely hire him, you won't regretting it. You can see in the pictures what a great job he did. Thank you again David"

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

No, you do not need a garbage disposal to have a dishwasher. A dishwasher will work without one, and while it's rare to see a home with a dishwasher that doesn't have a disposal, it is possible. The two appliances pair well and are often installed together because a disposal simplifies meal cleanup.

However, your dishwasher should not be used as a replacement for a garbage disposal. Subjecting it to continuous food leftovers can lead to major clogs. If you choose not to install a garbage disposal, you should thoroughly rinse your plates or scrape excess food into the trash or a compost pile before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent plumbing issues.

Replacing a garbage disposal costs anywhere from $150 to $950, but the average cost is somewhere around $550. There are two types of garbage disposal units, and continuous feed disposals tend to cost more than batch feed disposals. Going for an aluminum garbage disposal is also significantly cheaper than choosing a stainless steel garbage disposal. You'll also need to factor in the horsepower of the motor, labor, and the removal and disposal of your old unit.

The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

Whether it's worth repairing your garbage disposal depends on its age and the specific problem. Generally, if the unit is eight years old or younger, repair is a good option. For minor issues like a bad seal or a simple jam, a repair can be inexpensive, sometimes under $10. However, if the motor is broken (a repair that can cost $150 or more) or the unit is getting old, it's often more cost-effective to replace the entire disposal.
