"Rich was punctual and professional. Although he was at the house to give us an estimate on PVC fence repairs, he assessed the issues and was able to fix them on the spot. I couldn’t be happier with the service and the price. Staten Island Fence & Landscaping will be my first call for any future fence issues."

"We had quite a bit of repair done to our existing fence as well as some new construction. From the guy who did the estimate to the ladies in the office to the men who did the actual repairs, all were professional & thorough. Ken, Joe, & Thara worked nonstop & showed great attention to detail. Nicely done work. Would definitely hire again. Word of advice though. They're very busy so it takes longer to be scheduled but imo it's worth the wait."

"We needed to replace an old fence with a new PVC fence. After getting a few other estimates, we choose All Island Fence and Railings not only for the price but also because the sales associate, Bob, gave us a lot of confidence with information about the products and details about the work, and the warranties. Bob was informative and real professional. On the day of the job the installers were hard working, courteous, and careful. They double checked the property lines as needed. With all the windstorms we get I was particularly concern with the posts being well reinforced with concrete. I am confident this one is well done. The entire job was done perfectly, as was the removal of the old fence and the clean up. It was a great overall experience and I highly recommend All Island Fence and Railings."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Before starting a fencing project in Queens, hire a licensed surveyor to confirm property boundaries and avoid disputes. Review zoning regulations with the NYC Department of Buildings and check if your property falls within a historic district overseen by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. Gathering all required permits and approvals in advance helps prevent costly delays and ensures your project meets local requirements.

Helpful?

In Queens, homeowners often overlook the need for property surveys, skip checking with the NYC Department of Buildings for permit requirements, or select materials unsuited for local salt air and weather. Another common mistake is not consulting the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission for historic properties. Avoid these issues by verifying regulations, choosing climate-appropriate materials, and scheduling regular fence maintenance.

Helpful?

For fencing projects in Queens, permits are generally not required for fences under 6 feet on one- or two-family residential properties, according to the NYC Department of Buildings. Fences over 6 feet, those on commercial properties, or installations in historic districts may need approval from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission or your local community board. Always confirm with these authorities before starting your project to ensure compliance.

Helpful?

Queens experiences humid summers, cold winters, and coastal winds, which can accelerate wear on fencing. Salt exposure near the coast can corrode metal, so vinyl or powder-coated aluminum is ideal for those areas. Inland, wood and composite materials perform well if properly maintained. Choosing weather-resistant fencing materials helps withstand Queens' seasonal changes and reduces the risk of premature repairs.

Helpful?

In Queens, vinyl and powder-coated aluminum are top choices for fencing due to their resistance to salt air and humidity, especially near Jamaica Bay or Rockaway. For classic curb appeal, pressure-treated wood works well inland but requires sealing to prevent rot. Composite fencing is gaining popularity for its durability and low maintenance. Consult local suppliers familiar with Queens' climate for the best options.
