"Bryan D helped me with my new house alarm. Bryan was friendly and pleasant to work with. He took his time and listened to my needs for my desired level of security. (I am quite the paranoid person when it comes to home security!) He is extremely knowledgeable and was informative and thorough on all aspects of security, from the system functionality to do-it-yourself enhancements around my home. He gave me a ton of great advice and I feel 110% at ease with my security system! I highly recommend you work with Bryan at Alarm protect group!!"

"Mr. Garcia is very professional and is very knowledgeable on the installation and the quality of the various security cameras that are on the market. He (Mr. Garcia) informs you what will work well for you no matter your budget, and guarantees his work. I found Mr. Garcia's company through a reference from a coworker, and I am very pleased to say from our intial meeting and through the finished work Mr. Garcia is a true professional. I strongly suggest using his company for the installation of your security cameras and/or Computer upgrading that you may need. The all-around Quality has been 5 Star!"

"We hired EZ Switch to install exterior CCTV security cameras on a residential property. Alex was very helpful in selecting a product to suit our needs and demonstrated a good working knowledge of products available. The installation was completed as scheduled, with good communication keeping me advised of the status of special order products. The project was completed on time, with particular attention paid to every detail. The personnel were courteous, professional and Alex was very innovative in suggesting different methods to route the cables into the interior of the house. I am very pleased with the quality of the work performed by EZ Switch and would highly recommend them."

"Lovo is an excellent group of electrical professionals. Professionals is the key word. Marcus came to my home to scope on the job on the same day that i requested a quote. The entire LOVO team has been easy to reach, anytime of night or day to answer my questions and the work was performed in a very high level of quality. Marcus quickly provided me renderings of the job that we tweeked many times to get the job. The job looks great and i don't think that i could have made a better selection of electrical and security contractors"

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

Professional home automation services can include automation for nearly anything in your home, so the possibilities are endless. Some of the more common things homeowners use automation for include the following:

  • Heating and cooling for automatic comfort

  • Security cameras and emergency call systems

  • Door and window sensors to detect opening, closing, and break-ins

  • Solar system automation to maximize energy savings

  • Automatic door locks

  • Garage door openers

  • Speaker systems

  • Lighting

  • Appliances

  • Smoke and CO detectors

  • Blinds and other window coverings

  • Lawn irrigation systems

  • Water monitoring

It is possible to spend only $30 on a camera that can cover one particular area. You wouldn't need to buy software, hardware, cables, or anything else. Instead, it would connect wirelessly to an app on your phone where you could monitor the feed and take necessary actions at your own discretion.

Each has its use, depending on the scenario. Security doors are primarily intended to keep people out of the home, while storm doors are used to protect the home from extreme weather. Both tend to be made from heavy-duty metal and may include glass panels to allow light to enter the home. Storm doors can feature mesh screens, just like screen doors, to allow for increased ventilation and to keep out pests. Security doors rarely, if ever, have mesh screens.

Home automation systems offer a wide range of automation products and services. Some of the most popular options include:

  • Cameras: $35–$350

  • Door and window sensors: $20–$100

  • Doorbells: $100–$350

  • Locks: $150–$400

  • Garage door openers: $150–$500

  • Lighting: $20–$100

  • Speakers: $30–$300

  • Outlets and plugs: $20–$100

  • Thermostats: $150–$300

  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: $50–$150

  • Smart home hubs: $200–$900

  • Blinds: $50–$75

  • Appliances: $50–$3,000

  • Vacuums: $200–$1,200

  • Lawn systems: $80–$300

  • Wi-Fi and Mesh systems: $200–$500

  • Water monitoring: $100–$1,000

This is the topic of much debate, though there is no “better,” as it depends on personal preferences. Some of the components of a wireless system keep working when the power goes out, as they are battery-powered. On the other hand, a wireless system typically connects to your modem and router. Wired systems use landlines to communicate, which never go out on their own unless they’re physically cut.
