"Climate Mechanics worked hard to make sure we had both systems replaced on the same day and before the summer heat started. Nathan provided excellent service and communication throughout the whole process, from the first visit through the install. We are very happy with our systems and are confident knowing we are working with a local company that will be there for the service and maintenance of the units."

"Kenny from Horizon was very professional and a great guy. I appreciated his insight. He was just doing his job. He was very pleasant. However, I was disappointed in a tune up amounting to just a check of voltage on my motor and capacitors. I thought there would be cleaning involved and an adding of a pound of freon to my unit as advertised. That didn't happen. I received an estimate of over $700 for the replacement of 3 capacitors. I could replace all 3 for under $50. To charge $650 labor is raping the customer. Then the blower motor (that is NOT multispeed) was estimated at about $1100 replacement. The motor costs $210. So again...I feel raped. For a charge of almost$900 for labor. Unbelievable! I've lost my trust in companies that are so money hungry that they lose sight of reasonable business. I will now change out my own parts as I have no confidence of reasonable pricing. Maybe people can afford to be overcharged about $1100. I can't and I won't if I can help it. Next time I'll use my own voltage meter and check my motor voltage and resistance on my capisiters myself. They should be paying me for their so called "tune-ups" as they are only a ploy to pressure you to buy a new furnace/AC system. Ohh and they won't install a new furnace to an old AC unit and Visa versa. That's what the guy told me. Are you kidding me? He told me it would cost$11,000-17,000 for a new system. My father in law just replaced both for $9,000.... So again a minimum of $2,000 overcharge. Nope, Horizon, your scam won't work with me. I'll be glad to tell everyone I meet and show them your ridiculous estimates!"

"We recently moved into the area and our vehicle was due for state inspection and emissions. Not knowing where to go I called a few places based on Angie's list reviews. I selected Flourtown service center (FSC) as they were able to accommodate me on a Saturday with short notice (sticker was to expire in 2 days) and the price was extremely competitive. We arrived in the morning to drop of the car and the staff were friendly and professional. They called within a couple of hours to advise that the car was done and said we could leave it as long as we would like. We picked up our car later in the day after running errands and the staff was once again very friendly and the car was ready to roll. I would recommend bringing your vehicle to FSC for this service and if our car were to need further mechanical service, I would certainly bring it back.

"Prior to hiring Andrew, I spoke with two separate HVAC contractors over the phone. Neither of those two contractors would come to take a look at the boiler without ordering replacement parts. They asked for a description of the problem, hemmed and hawed about what could be wrong, and then quoted me between $500-$800 in parts (transformer, gas flow valve, ignition assembly, limiter, etc.) plus labor for a problem they didn't even fully identify. Clearly, I didn't hire them. Then, I found Andrew and Herring's Quality Home Systems. I contacted him on Angie's List, and he responded within 10 minutes. He was forthcoming with information, quoted me a fair price for coming to take a look, and was happy to work around our schedules. The day we scheduled him, he kept me updated on his time-frame, and didn't make a fuss about me being a little late. When he arrived, he was professional, and extremely knowledgeable! I asked him 100 questions about how the boiler worked, and he immediately answered the questions and never once did I sense he was "faking-it-until-he-made-it". He investigated every part of the boiler! He checked voltages over the entire system, he adjusted the gas flow rate (it was set too high, and could have been dangerous), he cleaned the gas jets, and was able to get the boiler working! He could have thrown in the towel and said, "I can't do anything to fix it, and we need to order parts." But, he didn't. He worked on it until it worked. I cannot say enough great things about Andrew. I have huge respect for him as a businessman and a tradesman. We will be contracting with him install our furnace as well as our A/C unit! You can't go wrong with Herring's Quality Home Systems. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!"

"Jeff from Accurate Temp.'s called me and we set up an appointment for him come out and give an esimate to install duct work and AC unit.  The same night he sent me the esimate via email.  After agreeing with the estimate and giving half the down payment they started their work and within days all work was installed and complete.  The AC unit has been working great in these hot summer days we've been having! "

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

No, boilers and water heaters are not interchangeable because they serve different primary functions. Boilers are used for central heating systems, providing hot water or steam to heat your home. In contrast, a water heater's purpose is to supply hot water for daily household use, such as for faucets and showers. A water heater alone cannot supply the warm water or steam needed for a central heating system.

While they are not interchangeable, it is common to have both a boiler and a water heater. In fact, a conventional boiler often works best when a water heater system is already in place. The two systems can be combined to provide both heating and hot water, either by pairing a boiler with an indirect water heater or by installing a premade combination boiler-water heater unit. For home heating, some homeowners may also opt for a furnace instead of a boiler.

Professional HVAC installation requires licensed expertise in several areas, including electrical- and plumbing-related work. An HVAC team must know how to safely handle regulated refrigerant chemicals and the gas, oil, or propane used in furnaces and boilers. A proper HVAC installation protects your home from energy loss, fires, and even carbon monoxide leaks.

An expansion tank must always be installed on the supply side, which is the side where the boiler sends water out to heat the systems. That placement allows the water to push against the air and condense properly as it is heated, then circulated through the system. Professional installers can recommend the best place on the supply side for an expansion tank.

Steam boilers require flushing at least every six to 12 months to keep them operating effectively for as long as possible. Depending on your water quality and frequency of use, you might need to do this more frequently. The flushing process helps to remove problematic buildup of sediments. While a boiler contractor near you can perform a thorough annual flush, learning how to drain the system yourself means you can do this monthly if you experience speedy mineral accumulation because of hard water.

You can use a boiler and a furnace, although it’s not common to use both for whole-house heating. For example, your furnace may take care of HVAC heating through your vents, while a boiler powers your floor-based radiant heating in the bathrooms. Mixing and matching like this gives homeowners a variety of heating possibilities.
