"Contractor was chronically late for all appointments by 2-3 hours. He stayed and worked well into the evening, even in the dark. I appreciate that he got it done eventually, but did not like having someone there till 9:30 at night. He did a good job on the concrete stairs - they look great. He left a mess in my basement when he repaired the front stoop. He also used a folding chair in my basement to stand on without asking - it is now a mess. For the wood railing on the back stoop, I specifically asked for a 4-5" space to be left under the bottom of the railing so I could sweep snow off in the winter. I also wanted the railing going down the stairs. At first, he did not want to do this (said something about code did not require it for the 3 steps going up) but it was part of the estimate that I approved. I asked him to fix the space under the railing and put on the railing for the stairs. He did come back and fix all to my satisfaction. Very nice guy, just not punctual or professional.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Prioritize a comprehensive inspection for your initial gas log service. Have a licensed NE contractor evaluate the entire system, as older homes feature outdated components or unpermitted installations. Verify your permit history with local authorities. Schedule a certified chimney inspection to check for masonry deterioration caused by freeze-thaw cycles. Finally, assess your carbon monoxide detector placement and confirm the exact location and condition of your dedicated gas shut-off valve.

Helpful?

A standard annual inspection for gas log service takes one to two hours. However, scheduling during the fall peak season in Omaha adds one to three weeks of wait time. Spring is the most efficient time to book non-urgent work. If your project requires permits, expect the inspection phase to add three to ten business days to the timeline. Permit-required jobs are never completed in a single day.

Helpful?

To maintain your system between professional fireplace service appointments, keep a few essential tools ready. Maintain visual inspection tools to check your chimney crown for winter freeze-thaw damage. Keep moisture detection tools on hand to monitor spring rain intrusion. Omaha homeowners also need reliable ash removal equipment, proper outdoor firewood storage, and functioning carbon monoxide detectors to comply with safety standards.

Helpful?

You have several options when hiring professionals for gas log service in NE. Licensed plumbers handle gas line installations and pressure testing. HVAC technicians service fireplaces integrated with home heating systems. Hearth specialists focus on installations and cosmetic surrounds, while certified chimney sweeps assess venting and flue conditions. General contractors coordinate surround work but must subcontract the actual gas line and appliance tasks to appropriately licensed tradespeople.

Helpful?

Basic fireplace service like annual cleaning takes one to two hours, while full chimney rebuilds require three to five days. Weather windows heavily impact masonry timelines in NE, restricting exterior work during freezing winter months. Required municipal inspections add up to ten business days to your project. Book your service in late summer to avoid wait times during the busy fall season.
