"Once we found a time that worked for both of us, I asked how much it would be. Was told $85. They walk in my house without putting on shoe coverings (we have new carpet) and shoe coverings should just be a given for any service coming into a customer house. The one he sent couldn't figure it out. He was here for MAYBE 10 minutes; he called someone to try and figure it out, ended up going to Menards to purchase a different switch, (that's ok), was gone MAYBE 45 minutes, installe switch and charged $200. Upon my arrival home in the evening, switch did not work. Had to keep another switch on to make the one they installed work. He sent another young man the next day after and he was here MAYBE 10 minutes (and the owner implied he should charge more since they had to come back- REALLY???) I asked if we could some money refunded and was told I could stop by the shop and get 1/2 hour refunded. He can keep is $42.50 to send his employees to school. My opinion total cost should not have been more than $100."

"Grayson quickly responded to my inquiry about hanging a 65" TV above the fireplace. He provided a reasonable quote and was able to complete the work just two days later. He even arrived early. Once his helper arrived, they got right to work. Both were well-mannered, friendly, respectful, and polite throughout the entire process. They made sure the TV was placed exactly where I wanted it. After finishing, Grayson asked for a paper towel to wipe off any fingerprints and even offered to vacuum the area. I highly recommend Grayson and RidderYoung Property Services. I will definitely be calling him again for any future electronic or electrical jobs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Omaha, an electrical permit is required for most electrical projects, including new circuit installations and major upgrades. According to the City of Omaha Permits & Inspections Division, homeowners may only obtain permits for minor work in single-family homes they occupy. All panel replacements or service upgrades must be performed by a licensed electrician, and both rough-in and final electrical inspections are mandatory to ensure compliance with local code.

Helpful?

In Omaha, frequent mistakes include failing to obtain an electrical permit, improper grounding, and using non-code-compliant materials. The City of Omaha Permits & Inspections Division often cites issues like closing walls before passing inspection and skipping required electrical inspections. To avoid hazards and costly rework, always follow local codes, use approved materials, and schedule inspections at the appropriate project stages.

Helpful?

After completing electrical work in Omaha, schedule periodic electrical inspections, especially in older homes, as recommended by the Nebraska State Electrical Board. Inspect outdoor outlets and extension cords each spring for weather damage, and test GFCI outlets regularly. During winter, check for overloaded circuits due to increased heating use. Proactive maintenance helps keep your system safe and compliant with local electrical codes.

Helpful?

In Omaha, DIY electrical work can save on labor costs, but safety and code compliance are major concerns. The City of Omaha Permits & Inspections Division requires licensed electricians for complex tasks like service upgrades. Hiring a professional ensures your electrical permit and inspection process go smoothly, reduces liability, and helps avoid costly mistakes or insurance issues. For any high-voltage or panel work, professional help is strongly advised.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Omaha, select materials rated for the local climate. Use THHN wire for interior dry spaces and UF-B cable for underground runs, as recommended by the Nebraska State Electrical Board. For outdoor work, weatherproof boxes and GFCI outlets are essential due to Omaha's seasonal weather swings. Always verify that materials meet the latest code requirements before purchase or installation.
