Customers say: True professional

"I had a very good experience working with Walt Haines General Contractor. Walt Haines is very easy to work with on a custom plan. He is the most conscientious contractor you will find. He cares about the quality of his workmanship, and tries hard to please his customers. Thank you Walt for building my beautiful addition in a timely, professional manner. Walt Haines General Contractor is the best contractor you could hire for a quality built home, or remodel."

"The best testimonial I can offer is that I’ve now hired JC seven separate times and I’ll hire him again in the future. He’s my go-to guy. The price is fair, the work is good. He’s sober, reliable and timely. I worked as a project manager for a larger contractor for a while, and this is as good as you’re going to be able to hire."

"Professional work from start to finish. Jared helped me not only on the selection of my countertop and backsplash, but was there to answer questions every step of the way. His crew is professional, tidy and the post project clean up was amazing! Highly recommend."

"Ken was great to work with. He’s very responsive and wants to make it as easy as he can for the homeowner. I do NOT like how the company does their pricing. They do not give you a set estimate for the project. They’d need to give me a fixed estimate and do change orders like a normal contractor or we would not hire them again. If they changed that we’d hire Ken again."

"We have updated my kitchen and laundry room and closes in a loft to make a bedroom. I will be working with Randy to do 2 bath remodels and a deck in the coming months. Randy kept our projects on schedule and on budget. I wouldn’t contact or recommend another contractor!"

"We hired Elaineâ s Construction and Design to renovate and update our new home. The home was built in the 80s and needed a major update. Elaineâ s helped us make our vision come to fruition. The bedrooms had 4 layers of wallpaper and there was popcorn ceiling in the whole house. The kitchen was completely closed off and had tile floors. Thanks to Glennâ s expertise and Elaineâ s helpful design tips we have a beautiful new home. All of the sub contractors they used were masters of their craft and even our smallest requests were met. If we were not happy with something they immediately made changes to accommodate us. This was a major project but they got it done in our time frame. We have a gorgeous new home that we will enjoy for years! Thanks To Elaineâ sâ Construction and Design for a great job!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Building a barndominium means converting a barn into a house. Barndominiums are becoming popular as spacious and stylish alternatives to typical housing structures. Old barns that become houses traditionally consist of wooden construction. However, newer structures, such as pole barns, often contain metal exteriors and roofs. Converting a metal outbuilding into a house presents an excellent opportunity to create a barndominium from metal.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Begin by analyzing the blueprints and gathering the proper materials before framing a house. With the prep stages behind you, begin by framing the floor of a house on the newly set foundation. Exterior and interior walls come next, along with rough openings for doors and windows. Contractors will then add ceiling and roof rafters to finish things off.
