"First phase completed on time, on budget, and of excellent quality. Chris provided extra value with his design suggestions. Second phase was delayed due to production issue on custom doors. Chris let us know immediately of the delay, and made sure that they did not begin until the doors were in his possession. He then, as promised, had the wall removed and the doors installed within one day. He works with a tight group of subcontractors, so we always knew who was coming and when. Since the second project overlapped with the onset of Covid 19, that has been especially important to us. He limited the number of people coming in, and their contact with us, and all observed handwashing and social distancing while here. We would highly recommend Chris to others. His design ideas are excellent, and he and his crew know how to implement them, so that the cost matches the estimate."

"Absolutely Fantastic I have worked with many wonderful contractors over the years but Rick Cox (dba Carolina Carpenter) is at the top of the list. He and his son, Josh, are extremely talented, resourceful and get the job done at a reasonable cost. They and the electrician, plumber and other professionals they use are delightful to work with and of the highest honesty and integrity. In June 2018 my wife and I purchased a house in Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC which was beautifully located but in need a great deal of work. After interviewing a number of contractors, we chose Rick because of his directness, obvious competence and easy manner. The renovation required complete gutting of the core areas, including the removal of several walls and a faux stone wood-burning fireplace. Rick started while we were still in NY and when we arrived in mid-August, he had neatly removed the fireplace. In the following 11 months, he replaced it with gas burning fireplaces in the living room and adjoining Master Bedroom (a very difficult thing to do in the space we had), expanded the rear hall, closed several exterior windows, installed 4 exterior windows and sliding doors, re-floored, re-sided and painted most of the common areas, rebuilt and upgraded the stairway to the lower level and put in a fantastic new kitchen. The project cost six figures and encountered many setbacks as removal of walls and floors exposed poor electrical work and many other preexisting deficiencies. However, in each case, Rick, Josh and his associates developed creative solutions and, as we went along, they helped us refine our vision of what we wanted so that the finished product far exceeded our initial expectations. With his fine carpentry expertise, Rick provided a new beamed ceiling and log mantle and wood work around the new living room fireplace which is itself the artistic focal point of the room. He also transformed an eye-sore half wall into a beautiful built-in cabinet which is integral to the new dining area. Rick and Josh work quietly and efficiently and are upfront about timelines and their availability. In fact, when the demands of a difficult new client caused them to fall behind the timeline they set, they worked on weekends to get current. You would be fortunate to have Rick and Josh working with you. We were. They came as workmen but stayed as friends. "Paul is as good as it gets. He does exactly what he says he is going to do with everything on schedule. The subcontractors he uses are amazing as well. His years of experience and obvious love of what he does shows in a completed flawless room. I chose him because of Angie’s List and am glad I did. Honesty, integrity, professionalism, and a great personality go a long way. If you go with this company, you will not t be disappointed"

"Alan Gaul merged two back to back closets and turned it into s larger pantry. He removed and closed off the two existing doors and repositioned it on the kitchen side. He did an excellent job and made sure everything was perfect and cleaned up before he left. I highly recommend him."

"Needed deck footers and supports redone on a 12x20 deck that my original contractor did incorrectly and failed inspection. KB did a great job of correcting and installing the correct footers and we passed our inspection with flying colors."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Hiring a contractor with knowledge about historic renovations and reviewing their previous work is important. You can find a historic home renovation contractor by calling your local historic preservation office, historical society, or any local historic museums nearby. The staff may have suggestions for specialized contractors who have worked for them. You can also ask them about historic home restorations that you have seen and liked in your area to get recommendations for pros.

Craftsman houses’ sustained popularity is likely due to their timelessly beautiful design and simplicity. To this day, they hold true to the power of hard work and refined craftsmanship and how that’s all you need to create a beautiful home.

Designing a building takes 2-6 months, depending on project size, required permits, and revisions.

A split-level home is one that has several staggered floors connected by short staircases, while a split floor plan separates the primary bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. Split floor plans are most often found in single-story homes, while split-level homes are always at least two stories.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.
