"Over the course of the last year Grady Jones Paint has worked for me on (3) different occasions to repaint our home interior. The scope of work included scraping the popcorn ceilings, flattening them and then repainting them; repainting all of the walls; painting our cabinetry; and, finally, staining the exposed woodwork on our deck. Clee was very responsive and visited the project every time his workers were on site. Tim and Eddie made up the crew who did the work. They were amicable, professional, courteous and did a GREAT job. I plan to use Grady Jones Paint for any future work and recommend them to anyone in need of a paint contractor."

"Chad and his crew did an amazing job! They were punctual, quiet, fast, and very clean. Before starting, the put down plastic to cover the floors, kitchen cabinets and counters, and carpet. When they were done, the cleaned up everything. The house looks fantastic! And we plan to use their services again in a few months to paint the exterior."

Customers say: True professional

"Javier did a great job repairing and replacing over 200’ of deck boards and lattice and then brush painting/staining our large deck. Since we are home due to COVID-19 we were able to observe him throughout the project. Good communication, fair pricing, friendly and conscientious. We are very happy with the quality of his work and look forward to hiring him again to paint the exterior of our home."

"I was in need of immediate painting for a new office I was moving into. The Express team not only responded quickly to my request on Angi but came out the very next day to give me an estimate and then began the work within a couple of days! Painting was well done and my office respected—cleaned up as if they’d never been there. Highly recommend Express Yourself Paint."

"My wife and I are very happy with the quality and service we received from Painter 1 Fayetteville. The painters arrived as scheduled, were very professional and ensured that at the end of each day everything was cleaned up and put away. The owner, Cristiam Oviedo, and the painters kept us informed as to the painting progress on a daily basis. An exceptional paint job completed by an outstanding paint crew. I recommend this company if you are looking to have your home painted."

Painting questions, answered by experts

If you have the time and the budget, we strongly recommend staining your fence, especially if it's looking a bit tired or hasn't been treated recently. While you may not see the same return on investment (ROI) as you would with a project like a kitchen remodel, staining a fence is one of the best ways to add a facelift to your property—a new fence stain adds serious curb appeal to your home.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

Yes, you can paint a chain-link fence, but you don’t want to use spray paint. With the spray method, you’ll be losing a majority of your product to the air, given the size of the gaps in chain-link fences. Instead, use a paintbrush for your fence posts and a paint roller for the wire.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.
