"In 2013, Nicolas and his amazing team created the most beautiful paver patio (with gas and wood fire pits) for us, along with building a retaining wall and grading/landscaping our property. He returned this Spring to help re-sod our back yard (we wanted to change from fescue to Bermuda grass) and he sealed the patio. I cannot praise Nicholas enough - he is a grading master and a patio artist! Our patio is 8 years old and looks brand new. His team was so professional and Nicolas was involved with the project every step of the way. I give Nicolas’ Hardscapes and Drainage my highest recommendation!"

"We received quotes from MANY landscape businesses for artificial turf, and Triangle Greens and Grass was the most honest of them all. They got back to us quickly with a quote, arrived to do the job when they said they would, and gave us excellent service. Matt was incredible and went way beyond what was expected. I would highly recommend Triangle Greens and Grass for your next project!!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

If shade is a priority for you, then panting elm trees is a fine choice. A full mature elm tree has enough aesthetic appeal for some folks that it could add value to your home.

That said, never plant elm trees too close to your home, sewer line, or sidewalks, as their roots can damage these, which can lead to costly repairs.

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.

You should avoid planting grass, shrubs, plants, and trees in freezing temperatures, as the ground can get frozen and become too hard for proper root growth. It’s best to plant in the fall to allow your plants to establish root systems before the first frost. Landscaping when the average temperature in your area is between 50 and 60 degrees will usually deliver the best results.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

The duration of a lakefront landscaping project is determined by its scope, environmental conditions, and weather impacts. It often takes several weeks to a few months to complete.
