"I was incredibly grateful for the team taking the time to help me understand the scope of the work as I had no idea how involved it was. They prioritized our job and worked late to make sure they had all the parts etc. ready to go. They even brought an extra teammember to resolve the issue in even less time which was amazing. They were responsive, timely, considerate and hard working. We are so grateful for their quick response and everything is working as designed. We are so happy to have AC again and be able to see around our house at night =) If we have electrical needs in the future these folks will be our 1st call. They were fantastic and we highly recommend!"

"Ecomaster did an excellent job putting in the insulation. They sealed the attic, put in blown in insulation, plus weather striped and sealed stairway . They made an error in what to charge us- the attic space was larger than the house diagram showed. So, they actually charged us less than they should have. But they held to original estimate and didn't charge us more. I appreciated their honesty and integrity in keeping their word and holding to the original contract. There was also a rebate from Duke Energy that we were supposed to receive for putting in the insulation. It took 6 months and a lot of follow up on their side but they kept at it, kept us up to date and we finally received the rebate. I am very grateful for the work they put in after the sale. Our energy bills have dropped dramatically since the insulation was installed."

"This is a company that just does the energy efficiency testing and they specifically do not contract with the people who do the actual work. They also do energy star construction and since they know what energy star means, they basically allow people to help test their own houses so that we can at least approach what the energy star standard is for an existing house. All they do is provide the analysis. When they came to my house, they were very patient in answering any questions we had and provided all the information, so, they were very informative. I am very impressed with their work and would highly recommend them to anyone. The price was also good."

"Rick Bogdal, Owner, Electric Security Technologies, personally performed the installation.  He was punctual, professional and with great work ethic.  Every step of the way during the installation he checked with us to ensure it was to our satisfaction and even called later that evening to follow up!!  We will definitely use the services of Electric Security Technologies again.

"After my initial phone call, he was able to visit the job site the next day and provided me with a printed estimate detailing each job and how much labor and materials would cost within two business days. Very knowledgeable, I had several random projects covering all kinds of exterior and interior work and he was able to complete them all. Very friendly and easy to get along with, was pleased with his quality of work. We will be using him again for future projects."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.

The number one culprit of high energy bills is older appliances, especially fridges and freezers that are left on all the time. These two appliances tend to last a long time, which is good, but it also means that newer models are usually significantly more energy-efficient due to upgraded technology. The second most common reason for a high bill is heating and air conditioning.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.

Homeowners can often access federal tax credits, such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which covers a percentage of installation costs. Many states and utilities offer additional rebates, grants, or performance-based incentives. These programs can significantly lower your upfront investment. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) or contact your local energy office for current offers.

Smart glass doesn’t use a lot of electricity, and you can expect a standard window to add between $1 and $2 per year to your electric bills. Smart glass is proof that energy-efficient windows work. Although your smart windows may consume a little energy to operate, they can save enough energy to offset the costs. If you’re concerned about the minimal bump to your electricity consumption, you can opt for smart tint, which doesn’t require electricity to work.
