Most of what we do is full tear-out and replacement. We remove the old cracked, settling, or spalling concrete, rebuild the base the right way, and pour new. We also handle driveway extensions and widening, aprons and curb cuts, stamped and decorative concrete, and concrete repair.\n\nOur crews have poured more than 38,000 residential concrete projects. Every job gets a dedicated project coordinator, up-front pricing with no surprise change orders, and a final walkthrough before we call it finished. Licensed and insured.\n\nNeed a new driveway? "I was very impressed with Patrick Stollenmaier and his crew. Patrick was very helpful, giving us alternative choices re materials to use for the patio and design. The price detailed exactly how they would execute the job (very helpful when a design has to be approved by the condo committee, as ours was!) He and his entire crew showed up exactly on time every day and worked until the tasks scheduled for the day were complete. They were very professional and polite and answered all of our questions or referred us to the crew member who could. Each day, they left the work site neat and clean. We love the patio and walkway that they created for us and neighbors have gone out of their way to tell us how much they like it, too. My only complaint is that initially Patrick was a little slow getting the price quote and project sketch to us. However, the fact that the crew showed up when they said they would, did the work in a completely professional manner, and finished the job on schedule far outweighs that complaint. We would definitely use Stollenmaier Hardscapes again."

"David Shaw of Concretewrks followed up with me within 24 hours of my first contact to him. He came to our house and provided a professionally prepared written estimate several days later. The driveway work actually started about a week later and was completed in two weeks, a little longer than planned due to several rain delays. Our driveway exceeds our expectations and the price was very reasonable. David suggested adding a slight tint to the border pavers and it made a subtle and very attractive contrast. The whole job was well done. David and his team were very friendly and worked hard to complete the project promptly. I’m glad our neighbors recommended Concreterwrks and we pass forward the endorsement. Nancy and Roger Dexter"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The driveway apron is a technical term referring to where a private driveway meets the public street. If there is a sidewalk in front of the house, the driveway apron is typically on the opposite side of the public sidewalk from the driveway itself.

Sometimes, when people talk about asphalt driveways, they’re actually referring to asphalt concrete, which is a completely different compound. Asphalt concrete is asphaltic cement combined with sand or grit. It is significantly more lasting and durable than regular asphalt but also much more expensive. If you’re considering using asphalt concrete, ask an asphalt company for their expert opinions.

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

If you’re looking for a similar, eco-friendly driveway material, you might consider one of these options:

  • Permeable pavement: This material is sometimes called “pervious” or “porous” pavement; it allows stormwater to drain into the subbase, eliminating storm drain costs.

  • Gravel: Consider paving your driveway with locally sourced gravel. By sourcing from a nearby source, your money won’t fund international shipping and will be invested back into your local community.

  • Natural stone pavers: Because natural stone pavers are made from organically-produced stone, there’s no new manufacturing required, limiting the environmental impact. In addition, water easily flows and drains through the gaps in the pavers.

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.
