"I had an outstanding experience with Miguel and highly recommend him for any electrical work! He arrived on time, was incredibly warm, courteous, and professional throughout the entire process. Miguel went above and beyond by securing a permit from the county, installing a transfer switch for my new generator, and even arranging for the inspector to come the same day. The installation was completed quickly, accurately, and at a great price. His attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction were exceptional. I will definitely hire Miguel again for any future electrical needs. Five stars!"

"My prior water heater, a 50-gallon tank, started leaking after 15 years. I called Streamline to confirm that it needed replacement, and to replace it. I was considering a tankless water heater already, and the first tech walked me through the pros and cons, then wrote up an estimate. Two additional techs came the next day to install the heater and the necessary gas and power lines. The only issue I had was that one of the newly installed gas fittings leaked gas into the basement. I shut off the supply valve and called Streamline, and they came out within half an hour to fix it at their expense. Mistakes happen, and I was impressed with how professionally they corrected that one."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In Durham, homeowners often overlook the need for proper permits and fail to follow local electrical and gas codes. Placing a generator too close to windows, doors, or HVAC units can cause ventilation issues. Misjudging the generator’s capacity for your home’s actual energy needs and neglecting to check for underground utilities before digging are also frequent errors that can lead to safety risks.

Helpful?

If your generator in Durham frequently fails to start, emits unusual odors, or causes inconsistent power to your home, these are warning signs. Visible issues like cracked pads, corroded wiring, or loose transfer switch connections also indicate problems. If you notice excessive vibration, water pooling around the installation, or evidence of unpermitted work, it’s time to have the setup professionally evaluated.

Helpful?

In Durham, generator installation can impact your home’s electrical panel, HVAC, and gas lines. Watch for signs like circuit breakers tripping, unusual noises from your heating or cooling systems, or changes in water heater performance. If your generator is installed near ventilation or utility lines, ensure there’s enough clearance to prevent airflow restrictions or accidental interference with existing systems.

Helpful?

In Durham, the electrical panel and transfer switch area often require attention as wiring can loosen or degrade. The generator’s concrete pad may shift due to soil movement, and fuel supply lines—whether gas or propane—should be checked for leaks or corrosion. Regular maintenance of ventilation systems, exhaust outlets, and backup batteries is essential to ensure reliable operation in the local climate.

Helpful?

For generator installation in Durham, select a generator type that matches your home’s size and power needs. Use weather-resistant conduit, copper grounding rods, and a reinforced concrete pad to handle local soil and weather. Opt for heavy-duty transfer switches, flexible gas connectors, and vibration dampeners to improve safety and performance. Regularly inspect all connections for corrosion, especially in humid conditions.
