"AAA Deck and Fence did a fantastic job replacing our fence and deck. Their crew members were friendly, took care in making sure they were doing what was needed, and cleaned up after themselves. I would definitely recommend this company."

"The Fence Work team did an excellent job replacing two portions of our wood fence and creating a double gate on one side and a single gate on the other. It all went very well and we definately would hire them again."

"We contacted multiple contractors for quotes at the beginning of the project. Bill responded right away and was the first to respond by far. He came out quickly to discuss the project with us and provided useful information about the different options and their pros/cons. He listened to what we wanted and didn't try to push another fencing type on us like another contractor did. We received a quote the same day shortly after our meeting. It was much more reasonable than the others we received. There were a few months between us receiving the quote and deciding to move forward with the project. Bill didn't skip a beat when we let him know we wanted to push forward. He honored the original quote and got us on his schedule right away. We ended up having to push the start date back due to Hurricane Dorian, but Bill communicated clearly with us during that time. He started as soon as he was able and worked diligently until the job was finished. We are absolutely ecstatic about the final product and have already received several compliments from neighbors. We strongly recommend using him if you are looking at installing a new fence or having an existing fence repaired. He's professional, knowledgeable, and timely."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Ideally, when you replace a fence post, you should also replace the concrete footing. The concrete bonds to your new post, creating a secure base. If you install a new post into old concrete, it won’t be as sturdy.

That said, it is possible. Sometimes the post will lift right out of the concrete. If not, you can use a high-lift car jack to try and lift the pole out of the footing. Put the new post into the same hole and backfill it with fast-setting concrete. Keep in mind, this won’t work well for metal posts.

In most cases, trees need to be protected from deer all year round. This is especially true if you want to protect small trees from deer or if you just planted some fresh, new trees. Once a tree is a few years old, you likely do not have to worry about protecting it from deer as it will be stronger and can handle a little damage.

A fence post set in concrete lasts anywhere from five to over 25 years, depending on how well the concrete was applied and the fence post’s material. Untreated wood posts in concrete could last less than 10 years, but a durable, treated wood set in properly applied concrete could last a few decades. However, all fence posts will wear out eventually, so expect to need to replace your fence post every five to 15 years.

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. If you do that, all you get is a slightly better view. Moisture and UV rays can still sneak in through the side that’s unpainted or worn down and damage your fence. Rot and rust will spread, even if you can’t see it from your side of the lawn.

Removing fence posts that are set in concrete is something you can't do by hand. You will need an excavator, a strong post-puller, or a jackhammer. If you plan on recycling the concrete base, you may be able to cut the post out with a jackhammer and then set the new post in the existing base. However, it's usually better to remove both the fence post and concrete together. Due to the weight of concrete, you will need a hydraulic removal tool.
