Easter is one of the best-known and trusted fence, deck and renovation companies in the Midwest. Committed to “doing what’s right,” they are your good neighbor. The Easter Family guarantee is – “Even if it is the first job Dad did in 1957, if we didn’t do it right or didn’t do what we said, we’ll fix it for free.
"The negotiated price was based on fencing our back yard in phases, as we are a newly-constructed home and needed excavation work to be completed and did not want to have a fully installed fence that could get damaged in the process. We made it clear that we were on the timeline of the builder and did not have a firm completion date. The sales person agreed to the terms. We even told the sales person that when the property was able to be fenced in the second phase, that he could order the material at that time as to not have inventory sitting. He said that the fence material would not be sitting long as he had anther buyer serious about the same fence. The back property line was fenced. Fast forward 4 months later and a representative of this company shows up unannounced demanding that we finish the fencing project. He even started to measure the property line! When we reiterated to him that we had an open finish timeline until we could get the property re-graded and it was based on when the builder could get this completed; he angrily drove off and told the owner that we are not finishing this project! We then get a rather nasty email from the VP demanding final payment after he raised the cost of the project against the negotiated price because only the back line was fenced at this time. He also said that he was stuck with the remaining material even though he chose to go forward and order in bulk knowing that this fence was to be completed in phases. We never even received a phone call from this company expressing concerns, nor did we receive any voice mails. I am not sure what the message relayed back to the company owner was from the representative that came to our house by surprise; but clearly it wasn't what we told him as we never said that we were stopping this project. At the time of the quote, our other three neighbors decided to go with another vendor instead of Easter fence. We wish we did as well! Lesson learned!"

Yes, you should confirm that the fencing installer you hire is insured before proceeding with the job. In most cases they do not need a specific fencing license, but rather a general contractor’s license. Hiring a licensed contractor protects you as a homeowner from fraud, poor work, and potential legal woes.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Licensing and certification are not necessary.
The average cost to install a fence is between $1,760 and $4,500. These costs are what an average homeowner spends, but you might spend more or less depending on several factors. For a smaller DIY project, you might get away with spending as little as $430, or for a much larger project (like fencing for a 5-acre yard), you can spend in excess of $43,000.
Besides the size of your yard, other factors like your fence material, fence height, site prep, and additional fence features like gates all impact the overall cost. Additionally, the high cost of raw materials and manufacturing can all make the overall price tag higher.
The overall cost of a fence project depends on numerous factors, including the size of your yard, fence material, fence height, site preparation, and additional features like gates.
Before you hire a fence installer to build you the fence of your dreams for your yard, it’s important to set expectations up front by asking questions. Some questions to consider include:
Do you offer a warranty?
Do you offer financing or a payment plan?
Do you have references?
Do you have photos of previous work?
What type of fencing materials do you work with?
Do you have references?
Are all fasteners exterior (galvanized)?
How deep are you concreting the post?
What is the lowest maintenance fencing?
How will you deal with slopes?
Only some fences require a permit to build. Factors like where you live, how tall your fence will be, and where in your yard you plan to build all impact the need to have a permit. Below are a few examples of when a permit is needed; it’s always best to check with your fence installer to confirm if a permit is required.
Generally, if you live somewhere rural, like on a farm, there’s a good chance you will not need a fence permit. However, you will most likely need a permit if you live in a highly populated area. In addition, many privacy fences in your backyard won’t need a permit if it is 6 feet or shorter. However, you might need a permit for anything over 3.5 feet in your front yard.
Any solid panels over 8 feet in height will require a permit, while a 2-foot lattice top on a 6-foot fence does not require a permit.
Fence installers typically charge by the hour when working on a project. Typically, you can expect to pay around $50 per hour for fence installation. Your project might take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, depending on the length of your fence, overall project complexity, and fence type.
