"Very well. Chris called almost immediately and showed up right in time. After powerwgashing the deck he advised that three might be some issues matching the tint of our original sealant. After we were able to locate the brand and color he returned again right on schedule and applied the new product. Overall it looks good although there is some splotchiness where the product seems to have been applied unevenly. Nevertheless it was a good job. He also worked in patching of some holes in our wood siding caused by woodpeckers. Those repairs were done well."

"The company was able to get top of the line materials and gave us a great price.  The laborers and foreman worked tirelessly, rarely taking a break and only then to quickly eat a sandwich before resuming their work. The craftsmanship was excellent and the deck, while always a big part of our family living space, is now beautiful.

"The experience of working with Metro St. Louis Construction was great. They were honest, reliable, caring and did quality work. They problem solved a water leakage issue that had been looming over our heads for awhile and another company was not able to fix. We recommend them highly as a company to turn to for their services. They will be returning to replace the drywall in our bay window that was damaged by the water leakage problem. This is a company that I trust!!! We have warranties on our roof and windows and I know that I can turn to them if we have any concerns. Thank you to Metro St. Louis Construction for doing such a terrific job on our home and thank you especially to Jacob Quick, Christian, and all the fine workers who replaced our roof and windows, etc.!!!!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Yes, a well-built fence can increase your home value as it improves your property’s curb appeal and also provides enhanced security. Online studies show that fences have a 50% recovery rate, meaning investing $10,000 in a new fence can potentially increase your property value by $5,000 in the end. The number may fluctuate depending on the quality, material, and design of your fence.

Split rail fencing is a type of post and rail fencing. Other post and rail fences include corral board and post and dowel. Post and rail fencing is the term used for any type of fence with vertical posts, horizontal rails, and nothing else (specifically excluding pickets). So, technically, a split rail fence is a post and rail fence.

A high-quality wrought iron fence is one of the most durable options available and can last a lifetime, or even centuries, with proper care. However, wrought iron is susceptible to rust and corrosion if not maintained.

To maximize its lifespan, regular maintenance is required. This includes:

  • Cleaning the fence with soapy water every six months.

  • Scrubbing away any rust or corrosion as soon as it appears.

  • Applying a new coat of paint or refinishing the fence every few years to protect the metal from moisture and oxygen. The recommended frequency varies, with sources suggesting anywhere from every 1 to 10 years.

If significant rust develops, it's wise to hire a professional fence repair company to clean the rust and reseal the fence. The cost to refinish a fence is typically between $5 and $12 per square foot, a worthwhile investment to ensure its longevity.

Issues include rust, loose posts, and damaged mesh. Regular maintenance prevents significant problems.

How long a fence lasts, including a split rail fence, will depend on the material from which it’s made. The average lifespan of a wood fence is about 15 to 20 years. However, split rail fences made out of premium materials, like composite, vinyl, steel, or aluminum, can last for 25 to 30 years or more, especially if you take good care of the material and carry out necessary maintenance.
