The inexperienced handyman handles the business end and will therefore take calls from other customers while charging $75 per hour. The inexperienced handyman also likes to chat and play with his dog that he brings to the job site while charging $75 per hour. Overall, about half of the tasks that they performed had to be redone. I will just provide the two most important ones. One light fixture was installed and when the breaker was turned back on, a loud pop was emitted from it. Clayton heard it as well but Joe said it was nothing to worry about and left. I let them leave because I had somewhere to go but did not use the light because this was an extreme hazard and completely irresponsible. I called them the next day to come back and fix it. They came, worked on it and I have not had any more pops from it. However, 2 days later the light fixture fell out of the ceiling. It had been screwed right into the drywall, no other support. Another light fixture was installed which required a piece of 2x4 to be added in order to attach the light fixture properly and securely. Instead of this, a thin, flimsy piece of trim was put into the ceiling and the light fixture was secured to that. That day I had a drywall person here doing some work and asked him to fix these issues properly which he did with no problem. Installing light fixtures is Handyman 101. When I notified Clayton about these issues, I was informed that they would have come back out to fix them but I told him there was no excuse for the work that was done and that I didn't trust they could do it properly. Either they did not know the proper way to install light fixtures or they did know but chose not to do it properly. Either way, I did not want them to fix it, I wanted it done by someone who I knew would do it right. I asked for a $150 refund to cover 2 hours worth of time that I was charged for the light fixtures so that I could pay the drywall guy for his time to fix them. They refused. I even sent photos showing the light fixture hanging from the ceiling. Still no refund. I will not be hiring them in the future nor would I recommend them to anyone else.

Awnings last five to 15 years on average. Vinyl awnings offer a long lifespan, but other fabric types can also last a long time if you regularly clean them and repair them as needed. To extend their lifespan, you should clean your awnings at least twice per year.
It’s best to opt for a lightweight roof, as a heavy roof adds a lot of weight and pressure to the support posts and hardware and destabilizes the structure. Vinyl is a good, lightweight option, as is a nice open trellis, louvered aluminum or vinyl slats, or fabric panels. Clear polycarbonate is another great option that offers seamless shelter and additional UV protection without completely obscuring the sunshine. You can also choose retractable coverings or an awning that you only use in wet weather or when you need additional shade.
It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind. Some awnings can take winds up to 30 miles per hour without any damage, but it’s best to consult the manufacturer’s guidance. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too windy for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s time to bring the awning in.
Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:
Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire
Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning
Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings
Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust
Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option
Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage
The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.
