"I guess ok, not great. I was a little surprise that no vacuum was used to clean furnace. It was wiped with rags and especially since I have had construction going on downstairs for last 6 months and lots of construction dust. They were aware of the construction, so I guess I am really surprised that no vacuum was used?"

"The sink had very thick and longtime build-up that was mostly clogging a big section of pipe and not able to be opened with a "snake". Several feet of pipe had to be removed and replaced. Once the occluded piece was removed, Kyle showed me the ends of the pipe after it was removed and why just trying to shift the caked in debris wouldn't work in this case. I appreciated him showing me (including some photos, as I have a crawl space) along with explaining so I had a better understanding. He was considerate in explanations of the work, wearing a mask, punctuality and in cleaning up after."

"Saul is on top of the roofing business from seller to installer. He knows roofs. Noted things other roofers did not. A fair price and a good installer. My roof looks great and cleaned up the job site real well. Danced around with the weather but done with no big delays."

"I had an old deck that needed removed and a new one installed. I got 3 bids, all were close to the same. I picked Donigan because he seemed the most organized and his bid made the most sense. The install went great with no issues. Looks just as we planned. Overall I’m really happy with the job Donigan construction did."

"Fantastic!! The old Casablanca fan in our sun room had stopped working and parts were no longer available. I ordered a new fan from Home Depot, found Fusion Electric on Angi's list and made arrangements for them to replace the old fan. Michael arrived on time, went right to work and had the old fan removed and the new one working in an hour. The work was a bit difficult because the fan was mounted on the ridge beam of a vaulted ceiling 14' above the floor. Michael was pleasant and extremely competent - we are very pleased with his work. The next time we need electrical work done we will definitely call Fusion Electric."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Designing a building takes 2-6 months, depending on project size, required permits, and revisions.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.

The best way to start designing a house is to know what you want before designing. Making a list of your biggest priorities in a home will help. Designing a house without an idea of what you need or want in a home will lead to many trials and errors that could make it harder to figure out what you need in your design.

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.

Depending on what the blueprints are for, a qualified draftsperson, contractor, or architect can draw them up. In some cases, including specialty permitting for a build, you may be required to use a licensed architect.

In many cases, a blueprint drawn up by a certified professional is required before a city or municipality approves a permit.
