"Great. Their initial time frame was long (they were scheduling up to two months out), but I mentioned I was hoping for sooner. When, four weeks in, they had a sudden opening, due to a job in my neighborhood finishing early, they called to arrange and were there within an hour. Late notice meant I could not be home, but the arborist reassured me by speaking with me on the phone. The tree pruning was smart and sensitive. When I expressed some disappointment with underprunung on a big shrub, the arborist arranged to come back to fix it the following week. Super responsive, willing to explain recommendations."

"I called at 8;30 am and a rep from Arbor Barber was out within the hour. The team showed up about an hour later and completed the work. The team was quick, efficient and left my yard like nothing had ever happened. Price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend Arbor Barber!!"

"A&T responded to my initial request quickly. They provided a very reasonable quote to clear branches and cut down a tree that was nearby power lines and buildings on the property. They worked efficiently and cleanly. Professional and friendly; a pleasure to work with; I recommend their services."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

In St Paul, harsh winters make dormant pruning safer and help prevent disease spread, while late spring frosts can damage young trees and delay planting. Summer brings severe storms that often require emergency tree removal and storm cleanup. Heavy clay soils common in the area can affect tree health, so local experts adjust maintenance schedules and select species like sugar maple or bur oak that thrive in St Paul’s unique climate.

Helpful?

When hiring tree service professionals in St Paul, look for local experience with regional pests, diseases, and soil types. Ensure they carry proper insurance and certifications, and ask about their familiarity with city permit requirements for tree removal. Request detailed written estimates, check references, and confirm they use equipment suited for St Paul’s tight urban lots. Avoid contractors who rush decisions or lack clear documentation.

Helpful?

In St Paul, combining tree service with landscaping, irrigation, or driveway projects can streamline your schedule and minimize yard disruption. It’s wise to schedule tree removal before installing new sod or hardscaping, and to coordinate with neighbors for possible group discounts. However, avoid overlapping projects during peak growing season or after heavy rain, as equipment can damage saturated soil and established tree roots.

Helpful?

In St Paul, homeowners often prune oaks or elms during the wrong season, increasing the risk of oak wilt or Dutch elm disease. Planting trees like Norway maple, which struggle in local soils, is another frequent error. Failing to obtain permits for large tree removals or ignoring city rules for boulevard trees can result in fines, while attempting hazardous removals without proper equipment poses serious safety risks.

Helpful?

Tree maintenance in St Paul involves seasonal tasks—winter is ideal for pruning and inspecting for storm damage, while spring requires fertilization and monitoring for pests like emerald ash borer. Summer means deep watering during dry spells and checking for storm-related injuries. Fall is best for mulching and preparing trees for cold weather. Annual professional inspections help catch disease early and keep trees healthy year-round.
