"Greg and his crew did a great job tearing out my old slab and replacing it with pavers. They worked quickly, in spite of rain delays, and finished the job in a few days. I'm very happy with the result, and would recommend them."

"Couldn't be happier with Trinity's work on my project so far. Hired Travis to do the site prep for my barn. Work was exactly as described and as a result I've hired Trinity to pour the concrete in the building in a few weeks. We've been working through the winter and he's been great with coaching me through the unique aspects of Minnesota winter construction. Highly recommended!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We hired Tony and his crew from Form and Pour Cement Works and couldn't be happier. When my wife and I moved into our home, we quickly discovered some major drainage issues that needed to be addressed right away. Tony and his team regraded and pour a new cement patio, front sidewalk and steps to our entryway, and replaced the first 12 feet of slab in front of our garage. We were impressed with Tony's hardwork-ethic, skill, and craftsman ship, as well as the speed of their work. We now have all of our water grading issues accounted for and will be able to enjoy our new concrete work for years to come. We highly recommend Form and Pour Concrete Works! You won't be disappointed."

"I have used Forsberg Concrete and Masonry for two separate projects. First project was to install a couple sidewalks around my home. Erik and team were informative, professional and delivered great customer service with fabulous results. After completing that job, I did not hesitate on going with Forsberg Concrete again for my second project of pouring the floor in my pole shed. Again, the same top-notch installation from Erik and team. I will use them again for all my concrete/masonry needs."

"Jason created a great plan for the space around our home after a major addition. His bid was competitive. Jason was onsite with his team for most of the project overseeing the installation. They laid plastic and river rock in areas along with mulch in others. Plantings were then added. We are really happy with the finished product and are planning to use Jason in the spring to do additional plantings in other areas of our yard and to install a water feature."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Masonry uses units like bricks, cement blocks, and stone with mortar between them. Mortar is generally made of sand and a type of cement. Examples of masonry include the brick or stone on a house, chimney, or freestanding wall. Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, stone aggregate, and other materials, and is poured into forms or moldings. Types of concrete applications include driveways, garage and basement floors, and poured concrete walls in basements and crawl spaces.

The difference between river rock and landscaping rocks is size, smoothness, and use. River rocks are smooth and flat, as if polished by water, and come in diameters between 1 and 8 inches. Landscape rock can vary in size from small pea gravel installations to car-sized boulders. However, landscaping and river rocks are interchangeable in many situations. River rock is best for pathways, walkways, garden bed mulch, water features, and planting accents, while small landscape rocks can serve as a walkway base, gravel playground areas, and filler between pavers.

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

When it comes to how to paint a brick chimney, consider that standard paint can seal in moisture and cause serious chimney problems. Instead, use a vapor-permeable sealant. You’ll first scrub and sand the chimney; then, you can patch any gaps with caulk and apply the sealant. We recommend hiring a pro for this job since it entails working on the roof, which comes with a lot of necessary safety precautions.
