"Paul and Howie from St. Paul Pipeworks did a great job. When doing some plumbing repairs myself on our 1927 house, ran into an issue above my pay grade. St. Paul Pipeworks was able to be out within a week, cost $1100 less than one of the bigger outfits in town, and worked quickly when here. They were also happy to work with me on a quote that just addressed the issue I couldn't handle on my own. Would definitely hire again."

"As a person in the plumbing trades both new construction and service work I have come to appreciate the skills of someone who does a craft full time and is encouraged to develop skills to make it “their” full time occupation and career. Drain cleaning is part of maintaining a plumbing system. It is a craft different than installing and repairing plumbing but it is just as important to do it correctly. The other values in McDonough’s services are several having the equipment and personnel trained and available is paramount to this no matter how big a job has gotten they have never stopped until it was completed! The other feature that is not fully understood by many is that it is always best to use someone that has only one purpose in mind and that is to get the drain cleaned and inspected and has no reason to up sell you on some repairs or replacement that you don’t need. That why we use them as a plumbing company and recommend them to our valued clients. Great company that invests in training, retaining and having the equipment that their service people need to be efficient, productive and provide the services that they are being relied on to provide."

"Brett the tech arrived within 90 minutes of my price quote discussion & phone agreement to Cutting Edge to do the job. Brett was very professional, friendly and quick. They bill per drain. I asked Brett to look at other drains I was concerned might also need to be cleared (since he was here) and he found them not to have any issues & said they didn’t need to be cleared. Basically he did not do & bill for unnecessary work. Also gave me a Senior Discount (Yes! I’m old!) I am so very appreciative of that! Brett had both jobs completed in under 2 hours, explaining steps taken along the way. I highly recommend Cutting Edge Sewer & Drain and I will definitely use them again!"

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

When hiring a sewer line company, you need to consider more than just the quoted price. Make sure to check that the company or contractor is licensed, certified, and insured to protect you both. Check for positive reviews, and you can even request references for extra peace of mind.

To find the best contractor, you might also want to consider how long the company has been in business doing sewer line cleaning and if they’ve won any industry awards for their work and service. Review potential contracts closely, and look for transparent pricing.

That pungent rotten egg smell coming from your drain is likely the buildup of biofilm—hair, skin, and soap scum that turns into a black sticky mess. In this case, pouring down near-boiling water, baking soda, and white vinegar will remove the smell. Keep in mind that a rotten egg smell is occasionally a sign of larger sewage line clogs and other related issues.

Common drain issues include slow-running drains, whether in a sink or shower, clogged drains, a bad smell, and water backing up into a sink, shower, or bathtub. Causes range from hair, grease, roots, or toilet paper clogging the drainpipes to flooding outside the home, which prevents sewer lines from draining properly.

You could be smelling sewer gas in your kitchen because of a dry P-trap, clogged vent pipe, or leaking plumbing seals. If you smell a rotten egg odor, check your sink’s P-trap and plumbing connections first. A clogged or damaged vent pipe can trap sewer gas and push it back into your kitchen through the plumbing pipes. Loose or deteriorated seals around drainpipes can also allow sewer gas to leak out. If you can’t find the source, call a local plumber for expert help.

Your sewer pro will take about an hour to complete your sewer line camera inspection. However, if your home does not have cleanout access and the pro needs to remove the toilet to access the sewer line, the time to completion will take longer. Note that this estimated time does not include the time for repair, drain cleaning, or any other services you may need.
