"Here’s a polished 5-star review you can use or customize: I couldn’t be happier with the sealcoating job done on my driveway! The crew was professional, on time, and paid great attention to detail from start to finish. My driveway looks brand new again with a smooth, clean finish that really boosts the curb appeal of my home. They took the time to answer all my questions and made sure everything was done right. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality driveway sealcoating and excellent customer service. Definitely a 5-star experience!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We had a stamped patio, a stamped sidewalk, formed porch, and a driveway done. The work was all completed in 3 days from start to finish and turned out fantastic! Doug and his crew were on time every day and cleaned up everything at the end of each day before leaving. Melissa was friendly to work with for scheduling and always called back within a reasonable time. We highly recommend their services!"

"Eric and his crew were extremely professional. They were prompt to start the day early and worked extremely hard at a very difficult job. We had a lot of brickwork done, but before anything could happen they had to do a lot of tear out. They rebuilt our porch, put in a walkway and built landings going to our driveway, bricked the area in front of our garage and ten had to curve around to the back to put in our patio. They got it all right and it looked perfect. We are extremely happy with the job that they did and would highly recommend them to others."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.

Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.
