Small jobs welcome

"This is the best tree service company I have ever experienced, and i have delt with a few. Their pricing was reasonable, they showed up on time, worked safely and cleaned up beautifully. We had four properties that had tree damage from a storm. Some large trees, close to homes, had dangerous splits up the trunk sections. They engineered the removal in such a way as to have no danger or damage to the homes or surrounding gardens, etc. They took care of all four properties promptly and to the satisfaction of all four homeowners. If you want a professional company with skilled and experienced employees Addison Tree is the company to use. Rick from Oakland Township"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If you’re taking down a tree that you don’t suspect is affected by disease or pests and it’s nowhere near your home or other structures, then calling in a tree company should work fine. However, anything more involved means an arborist is a better option. These pros have years of experience with tree removal and can safely take down trees located next to structures, and they have the tools, sanitization equipment, and experience to remove sick or dying trees without infecting nearby trees.

Using Epsom salt to kill a tree stump typically takes between six and 12 months. While this may seem like a long time, it is significantly faster than the natural decomposition process, which can take up to seven years. This method is a viable DIY option for stumps that do not pose an immediate hazard. If you need a faster solution, you can hire a professional for stump removal or grinding, though this may cause more damage to the surrounding ground.

It may be possible, but transplanting a large, mature tree can be a tricky project, and some trees handle it better than others. If you have a tree you need to save and are considering transplanting it elsewhere, we highly suggest calling a tree removal service and arranging a consultation to see what they say (and how much a full transplant would cost).

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

Generally, homeowners do not need permission to cut down a tree on their own private property, but there are several exceptions where a permit may be required. You might need a permit if the tree is particularly large, old, or a protected species, such as a heritage tree. Trees located near public property or power lines can also be subject to special rules. Additionally, many local governments and homeowners associations (HOAs) have regulations controlling which trees can be removed to manage an area's appearance or prevent the spread of invasive species. To avoid hefty fines, it is crucial to check with your local government and HOA to determine if a permit is needed before you begin.
