"The crawlspace of our 1930s home is small and challenging. Acculevel did a great job removing the old logs and stones that were holding up our floor joists, and replaced them with steel jacks. The men who performed the work were very hard workers. I corresponded with Acculevel via email after the work was performed to get photos and questions answered prior to us paying the invoice. They were very patient in answering all of our questions. It has only been a week, so I can't say whether the work will hold up, but so far our floors seem less squeaky! The only thing I would have changed is the fact that the vapor barrier they installed is not taped at the seams or walls. If you want it taped, make sure to ask for that during the quoting phase."

"He was very knowledgeable about drain fields dry wells and the types of pumps required. He was flexible and easy to work with in my unusual situation and got the job done in a good time frame. He had valuable suggestions regarding additional electrical work that was needed. In all, I was very pleased and would hire again."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

After masonry work in Flint, it’s important to allow new mortar to cure fully and protect it from freezing temperatures. Inspect for any settling or cracks after the first season, and apply a breathable sealant before winter. Clean gutters regularly to prevent water damage, and check mortar joints and chimney caps annually. Keeping detailed records and photos helps with future maintenance or warranty claims.

Helpful?

In Flint, unexpected costs during masonry work often stem from uncovering structural issues like foundation settling or hidden water damage. Dealing with hazardous materials in older homes, such as lead paint or asbestos, can require specialized handling. Additional expenses may arise from matching historic bricks, addressing chimney maintenance needs, or delays due to weather. Thorough inspections and clear project planning help minimize surprises.

Helpful?

Flint homeowners can choose eco-friendly masonry options like recycled brick, fly ash mortar, or locally sourced stone to reduce environmental impact. Energy-efficient upgrades include insulated masonry units and weather-resistant mortars designed for Michigan’s climate. Many local contractors offer green building expertise, and you may qualify for energy rebate programs by selecting sustainable materials or improving your home’s insulation with updated masonry.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work in Flint enhances home comfort by sealing out drafts and moisture, which helps regulate indoor temperatures and reduces heating needs in winter. Properly maintained masonry also prevents mold growth, improves air quality, and dampens outside noise. Upgrading brickwork or chimneys can boost curb appeal and safety, making your home more energy-efficient and enjoyable for daily living.

Helpful?

In Flint, signs that previous masonry work may need redone include stair-step cracks in brickwork, crumbling or missing mortar joints, and white efflorescence on surfaces. Watch for bulging walls, loose or shifting bricks, and water stains near chimneys or basements. If you notice drafts, increased indoor humidity, or visible gaps in exterior walls, it’s time to consider professional brick repair or tuckpointing.
