"I contracted DeGain Masonry to do a paver patio in my back yard. The finished project turned out better than I could have ever expected… very precise and meticulous. Clint was quick to return my calls, started and finished the project when promised and was more than accommodating in every way. I am a particular customer with high expectations of those I hire. That being said, I would highly recommend DeGain Masonry."

"I couldn't be happier with the work AP Construction & Concrete provided. From start to finish, the team was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. They took the time to understand exactly what I wanted, offered helpful suggestions, and delivered results that exceeded my expectations. The craftsmanship was top-tier?my new patio looks flawless and has already received compliments from neighbors and visitors. They kept the worksite clean, communicated clearly throughout the process, and finished the job on time and within budget. It's rare to find a company that combines quality, honesty, and excellent customer service so well. Highly recommend to anyone looking for concrete work done right the first time!"

"Good communication, professional, courteous and clean up was thorough. We waited a few months before doing a rating to experience a few heavy rains. We are extremely happy with having a dry usable basement. We usually don't do ratings but All Ways Dry exceeded our expectations!"

"Elon inspected my foundation to determine what walls were holding water. He took measurements and took time to share a video of the repair he was recommending. I will have four anchors installed on the problem wall at a very fair price."

"I recently purchased a modular home and wanted an insepction to help lower my heating bill. Steve went through the whole place and recomended painting the ceilings with NASA created INVISAFLECTS. Cody and Greg did an awesome job and was very respectful to a single lady like myself and were careful of my belongings, as I have many glass antiques I have inherited from my mother. They have also offered to help me with my skirting around my modular home this summer to help with the insulating of my home. I also needed some plumbing work done and Steve sat with me and went over the estimate that I received to make sure I was not getting taken advantage of which I was not. They have been a great help througout this whole project."

"We hired Brothers and Bricks to help our 1925 (unreinforced) college foundation that was bowing in approximately 4-inches. They came out for an estimate and talked through the potential repair options. The quote was very thorough and we understood exactly what we were getting. The crew was professional, and our house was left very clean after the work was complete."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

This is largely dependent on the size and hardness of the rock, but a range of tools might work, including hammers, chisels, rock hammers, sledge hammers, and more. You'll need a jackhammer for the very biggest rock-breaking jobs.

Two types of masonry are veneer masonry and solid masonry. Veneer masonry is thin brick or stone material attached to the face of a building. With veneer masonry, the walls support the weight of the masonry products rather than the masonry being built on a concrete footing. Solid masonry is a wall or other brick or stone structure built on a concrete footing, and the masonry supports itself.

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

Yes, masonry is more expensive than concrete because the labor is much more involved. With masonry, your expert will build your project from the ground up, one piece at a time, ensuring they use the proper amount of mortar or grout during construction and keeping the project level or plumb. Pouring concrete can also be labor-intensive, but it’s a bit less involved. It requires building a mold, pouring the concrete, and letting it cure. The less intensive labor makes concrete a more affordable option in most cases.
