"It was supposed to be a simple faucet replacement but my old plumbing turned out to be incompatible with the new fixture. Seth diagnosed the problem gave me a very reasonable new price, bought new materials and solved it in short order. All done with a completely professional and friendly manner. I highly recommend SWB Plumbing."

"Fantastic! We were in a bind when my tenant called with no water. I called Randy on a Saturday afternoon, Memorial Day weekend and within a couple of hours he replied that he would be there first thing in the morning...ON A SUNDAY!! Sure enough, he and his dad showed up around 8am, assessed the problem (old worn out well pump and leaking pressure tank) and by 9:15 had both units replaced and working with all new electrical line run from the well head to the pump. Fair price and unbelievable service! I couldn't recommend him more enthusiastically! I'll definitely be calling him for some new construction projects we have going."

"I am so impressed. We had a drain that needed work and I called Zoom (via sister company Pine State Services) after our usual plumber was going to be a week or so before they could come out. Zoom offered to come out the same day. The technician was as professional as I could expect and made sure to solve the problem to our satisfaction. Every time he had to go out to his truck and back for supplies, he took his boots on and off at our front door, ensuring that he didn't track anything into the house. If I could have given Zoom an A+ on responsiveness and punctuality I would. We will definitely call them again."

"Josh was great to work with. He was very responsive, fair and followed through on exactly what was needed (drywall finishing) under a tight deadline (with a tenant about to move in) and with a great attitude and attention to detail. There was an additional job (building a firewall in the attic- not the best of conditions) which he took on even though it meant adjusting his schedule. I would recommend Josh as a skilled and reliable contractor with a great work ethic and positive can do attitude."

"I found Caldwell Septic and Drains on Angi. He got in touch with me the day I posted my inquiry, and we quickly scheduled time for him to come out. We had two lines from our bathroom clogged and Zach came out and fixed both quickly. He explained what he needed to do and was professional. He then explained the invoice to me and thanked me for my business. I’d definitely recommend Caldwell Septic and Drains and will be using them in the future."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Hire a licensed professional for your plumbing who understands local permit processes to prevent project delays. Your contractor must carry active workers' compensation insurance to protect your property during the job. Because Bath features many historic homes, choose an expert experienced with older framing and antique pipes. If you live outside the city center, verify your pro holds proper credentials to handle private septic systems under ME regulations.

Helpful?

Permitted plumbing requires at least two visits for rough-in and final inspections. Opening walls in older Bath homes frequently reveals deteriorated pipes or hazardous materials that demand immediate attention and additional sessions. Exterior work during ME winters requires staging the project until the ground thaws. Sourcing specialized parts for historic fixtures or coordinating shutoffs with the local water district also extends the work across multiple days.

Helpful?

When updating plumbing in historic Bath homes, uncovering old lead or cast iron pipes requires mandatory replacement. You should also anticipate hidden freeze damage from harsh ME winters in uninsulated spaces. Exterior work near the river frequently encounters high water tables or ledge rock, requiring extensive excavation. Always plan for required local permit fees and potential septic system upgrades if your property sits outside the municipal sewer lines.

Helpful?

Upgrading your plumbing significantly boosts resale appeal in the historic Bath housing market. Buyers actively look for homes with updated, safe pipes and replaced lead service lines. Completing permitted work provides documented proof of safety and code compliance. Furthermore, bringing a private septic system up to ME state standards or connecting to the municipal sewer eliminates future maintenance concerns, serving as a major selling point.

Helpful?

Start your plumbing project by confirming local permit requirements and scheduling necessary inspections early. Assess existing pipe materials upfront to avoid surprises behind historic Bath walls. Determine whether your property relies on a private septic system or municipal sewer. Finally, schedule major exterior excavation between late spring and early fall, as frozen ground during harsh ME winters severely complicates trenching and extends your project timeline.
