"We would highly recommend Asphalt Experts for driveway installation and grading. Our driveway is on a fairly steep hill and required special attention with drainage, grading and landscaping. Joe, Dakota and his team were professional, very knowledgeable , communicated well and paid attention to detail throughout the project, The driveway looks beautiful and it was obvious that they are Expert at what they do! We are so glad we found them on Home Advisors. Ralph and Susan H. in Sebago ME."

"We were extremely impressed by Asphalt Techs as they arrived this morning around 9AM. They worked diligently all day to remove the old driveway. None of them walked but ran from one task to another. The were neat and clean, and polite. The prepared driveway was then blacktopped and finished by 3:30 or 4. Brandon LaSante, the owner was knowledgeable and answered our questions without any pressure when he came a couple weeks ago to give us an estimate. He was a pleasure to work with. We are very happy with the finished driveway and highly recommend him and his crew at Asphalt Techs. And his trucks and equipment was clean."

Customers say: Quick response

"Pleasant and customer focused; requested a short notice (4 day) upgrade of driveway before Thanksgiving... at first he was not able to fit us in. He then showed up and completed the work before the holiday. We expect to have additional work done in the spring. Highly recommend!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"Showed up on time, completed very diligently (these guys work hard!!) and did more than was asked of them. The driveway (about 4500 sq ft) was done very professionally and competitively. It's a real family affair, with Son (Joe Cooper), Dad and Grandfather -- along with brothers and an uncle all pitching in. Would definitely hire them again and recommend their work. Will see next spring how it holds up to its first Maine winter."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In Bath, the primary driveway, especially the apron where it meets the street, will need the most attention due to daily use and snow plow damage. Other high-priority areas include walkways affected by ice and salt, and any low points where water collects during spring snowmelt. Areas used for piling plowed snow also deteriorate faster and will likely require patching or repair sooner than other paved surfaces.

Helpful?

Yes, combining asphalt paving with other projects in Bath can be very efficient. Consider bundling it with septic system repairs, underground utility upgrades, or the construction of a new garage. Sharing excavation costs with basement waterproofing or French drain installation is also a smart move, given the area's wet climate and heavy rainfall. This approach streamlines work and can lead to significant savings on your overall home improvement budget.

Helpful?

In Bath, ME, complications for an asphalt paving project can arise from several factors. If your home is in the Historic District, has a steep driveway grade, or shows signs of drainage issues during spring snowmelt, your project will be more complex. Proximity to the Kennebec River can also mean foundation issues or wetland restrictions, while narrow lots in older neighborhoods may limit equipment access.

Helpful?

In Bath, ME, asphalt paving ages due to harsh freeze-thaw cycles and salt damage. Expect to begin sealcoating every two to three years after the initial installation to protect the surface. Around years five to ten, minor crack repairs from frost heaving become necessary. By years 15–20, significant patching or a full resurfacing is often required to address widespread deterioration caused by the coastal climate.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Bath often underestimate the regulatory and environmental aspects of planning an asphalt paving project. This includes securing necessary building permits, navigating Historic District approvals, and creating a stormwater management plan. The complexity of drainage due to local clay soils and the need for excavation below Maine's deep frost line are also critical factors that can impact both the timeline and the final outcome.
