"TG Painters were great to deal with. From initial consultation last fall right through to completion this Spring! Tyler and his crews were on time as scheduled. Prompt, courteous and hard working. Communication during the project was good. They did a wonderful job painting the exterior of our home and staining our deck. SO happy with the results,"

"Alic did an amazing job, he showed up every day that the weather cooperated in order to get the job done in a timely manner. The deck was unfinished wood prior to him coming and now it looks incredible! We would definitely hire him again for any other painting needs, interior or exterior!"

"Rodney at Mainecoast Painting was great to work with and kept us up to date throughout our project. They painted the ceilings and interior walls of a house where a smoker had lived and offered options to help remove the nicotine smell. They added some scents to the primer and also rented an ozone machine too and ran it in the evenings as they left. After doing all of that and painting the walls the nicotine smell has gone away!!! We completely recommend Mainecoast Painting for any of your painting projects!!! And if we ever need more painting we will definitely hire the crew again!!!"

"I hired Don to paint the downstairs interior of my new house. I hired him the Sunday before Christmas and he worked right through the holiday week and finished the job on time. His prices were extremely competitive. He also was very clean. I had the flooring contractor coming in after him and he took great care not to splash paint on the floor. He did a great job painting walls, even caulked around the window frames where he felt a draft. My family is very excited to move into our new home. Now we can feel welcomed when we walk in everyday. I plan on hiring him to paint the trim as soon as the funds open up in my budget."

"Ed was willing to work around our schedule to accomplish the huge task of stripping and repainting my restaurantâ s original tin ceiling in the dining room. I am extremely happy with his workâ my customers comment every day on how the place looks so much larger (because of a light color now rather than black). We did not have to close AT ALL because of Grayâ s Painting understanding of being a small business."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

Regular cleaning, rust-proof coatings, and checking fasteners help prolong the lifespan.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.
