"After our AC system failed, I interviewed and received estimates from four different Heating and Air companies. One rep wouldn't even go into our crawlspace to look at the failed unit, but gave us an estimate anyway. Another took a look but added many extras to his estimate. Yet another looked and was helpful, but he was not the one who would actually do the work. Scott Holotick from Reliably Accurate was the last to come out and review our situation and I knew I needed to look no further. Scott was extremely knowledgeable, courteous and professional. He gave me a clear understanding of what the problems were and a clear game plan for installing a new system. His estimate was comparable to the others, but he included things in it (like a new return duct and register) that the others didn't. Not only that, he examined our second system and was the only estimator that accurately diagnosed the situation. He sent a contract right away, was immediately responsive to questions, and confirmed our agreement each step of the way. He installed our new system himself, told me exactly what he was going to do and when, and even upgraded the system at no cost just before the install to take advantage of a new promotion. Not only that, he lugged out many buckets of trash that a plumber had left during previous work. Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

If you're connecting your gas line to appliances, the pro doing the work may recommend flexible corrugated stainless-steel tubing (CCST). Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is another relatively inexpensive material commonly used for residential pipes. Ultimately, you'll need to find out what is permitted based on the code requirements in your area.

In most cases, a gas stove should be installed by a licensed plumber. Connecting gas appliances carries many risks, chief among them a fatal gas leak. If your home is already set up with the proper gas hookups, you may be able to DIY the installation (or save money by hiring a local handyperson or basic appliance installer near you rather than a plumber). If you’re ever in doubt, however, we recommend going with a professional master plumber.

DIY installation is not recommended due to the complexities of gas line work and venting; professional installation ensures safety and compliance.

If your home uses more than one gas appliance, you'll continue to use gas, even outside of the heating season. Your water heater, gas stove and oven, and gas dryer will all use some gas, although typically much less than a furnace. Additionally, those appliances may also have a pilot light that is lit continually, using a small amount even when no one is at home.

When hiring a plumber to install or repair gas pipes, consider asking them the following questions:

  • How long will the project take to complete?
