"High praise for Poseidon Plumbing & Home Services! Jordan from Poseidon has come twice to our condo now and has done outstanding work! He replaced two ancient toilets and updated the venting on our newly installed dryer. Jordan was prompt, professional, very knowledgeable and did an excellent job. We will definitely call Poseiden for all of our future plumbing needs. Highly recommend!"

"Great. George immediately answered my first phone call on his cell. Made an appointment and came for repair or estimate the next day. Gave good, clear options and prices. The next day he picked up, brought, and installed a top new toilet and removed the old, rusted broken one. He also gave estimates on faucet repairs or replacements, which we will have him do for us soon."

"At first, I thought it went well. The running toilet was fixed, and I was satisfied. The other toilet had a flapper replaced (the fourth one in a year) but would not flush. I had to call the company and tell them to send someone back to correct this. A different plumber came, fixed the flush, but could not figure out where the rivulets were coming from. He also replaced the flapper, so that was the second in 2 days. Nothing helped stop the rivulets. I asked for a partial refund, and I was told they would "get back with me" after their Tuesday, June 27 meeting. To this day....no word. I was disappointed because they charged me for work that did not solve a problem with one of the toilets. So it cost us $246 to fix ONE toilet."

"Orbit installed a Puronics water filtration system in my home over a month ago and all I can say is WOW! It is by far the best investment I have made for my family. I knew our county water was harsh and heavily chlorinated (I could smell and taste it), but I had no idea what a tremendous difference a Puronics system would make on everything in my home from bathing my kids, washing dishes, doing laundry and preventing water rings in my clean toilets. The alkaline drinking water is the cherry on top! This system has by far exceeded all of my expectations. Not only is this system the best in the industry, Orbit’s team, lead by Shelby, was exceptional, kind, and amazing to work with. I received wonderful customer service every step of the way. All of my questions were answered with factual information and data. Our installer, Travis, was very knowledgeable and further solidified working with Orbit was a great decision for my family. A high quality install was a must for me, especially with plumbing involved. The lifetime warranty Orbit provides stands alone in comparison to their competitors. While a Puronics system is more costly than the DIY system available from a local hardware store, it is worth every penny and will stay with my family for life. The quality is in a league of its own! I highly recommend!!!"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The water in your toilet tank refills after each flush. So if you see dirty water in the bowl, you should check the tank to see if it’s coming from there. A dirty toilet tank can be the result of sediment in the water itself—-after all, the water will sit in the tank between flushes and can cause the interior to change into a dingy color. Faulty toilet components, like an old flapper, corroded tank lever or chain, or damaged seals, can also lead to dirty water as the materials break down inside the tank. You can clean the toilet tank or change out the old parts to give it a fresh start.

Replacing a standard toilet with an elongated one is straightforward. The two types can be installed using the same existing drainpipe and plumbing. If you have a small bathroom, make sure that an elongated toilet doesn’t violate local building codes for clearance, which is the space between fixtures and walls.

The average cost to replace a toilet seal ring is around $50 to $200 if you hire a pro to do the job. If you do it yourself, you’ll only need to pay for the supplies. Wax rings alone cost anywhere from $5 to $25 at hardware stores and can save you a lot of money compared to having a professional installation. At the same time, a licensed plumber knows how to properly install your new wax ring to prevent premature issues down the line.

Yes, an ambitious homeowner could decide to replace their own toilet. A person attempting to do a DIY toilet installation should keep in mind that the average toilet weighs between 100 and 120 pounds. That means that you'll need to be comfortable lifting and carrying your old toilet and replacement toilet during both phases of the project. Additionally, homeowners will need to have basic plumbing knowledge to avoid plumbing problems that could result in messy, expensive water damage in their bathrooms. Hiring a plumbing pro from the get-go can help you avoid damaging your plumbing or your new toilet.

Yes, frozen pipes can cause a toilet to stop working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which can lead to two main problems. First, the supply line to the toilet tank may be frozen, which prevents the tank from refilling with water after you flush. Second, the drain pipe itself can freeze, blocking water from flushing away. As a temporary solution for a non-refilling tank, you can manually add water, but this is not a long-term fix. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try pouring warm water into the toilet bowl or tank and then flushing, as the warm water may help thaw the ice blockage. Ultimately, the best course of action is to unfreeze the affected pipes to restore your toilet to full functionality.
