"I can’t speak highly enough about my experience with Burge Irrigation. From start to finish, they were professional, responsive, and clearly committed to getting the job done right. But what really made the difference was their lead technician, Reid. We were dealing with a complex irrigation issue that had stumped others, but Reid approached it with incredible knowledge, patience, and determination. He took the time to thoroughly diagnose the problem, explain everything clearly, and walk me through the solution step by step. It was clear from the start that he genuinely cares about the quality of his work and customer satisfaction. Thanks to Reid and the team at Burge Irrigation, the system is now working better than ever. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing reliable irrigation services. Reid is a true asset to the company!"

"Super easy to schedule! They were on time and did a fantastic job aerating my yard. The Toro stand-on aerator they used is far superior to the push/walk behind aerators. Definitely recommend MD Decking for your aeration."

"I contacted Woods home services to give me an estimate of cost to install a new irrigation system at my home. They were the only company to respond within a day. The other companies took almost a week to get back with me. Jim (the owner) gave me a proposal within the same week and he always responded to my questions. I found the proposal to be a good price along with many options for add ons. He was willing to make accommodations for my system since I discovered that my well pump is only 7gpm and my yard is very large. Ultimately, I decided my well pump could not handle the pressure needed to effectively water my lawn at this time, when it is time for me to change the well pump I will call Woods to install the sprinklers. I would recommend this company mainly because of the response times and effective communications."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

If thrown on the ground and left, some Bermuda seeds will sprout on the surface, but you will have a diminished germination rate. It’s best to cultivate the area before spreading the seeds for optimal results. Rake the area first and then evenly distribute the Bermuda seeds. Cover the space with about ¼ inch of soil before watering the area.

In general, cool-season grasses such as fescue grass, ryegrass, and Kentucky bluegrass are best for creating a striped lawn. Warm-season grasses like bermuda and zoysia grass don't curl as much, so grass stripes aren't as easy to see. If you live in a climate that’s better suited for warm-season grass, zoysia grass will typically be your best option.

Seeding a lawn offers several advantages over laying sod, primarily related to cost and variety. Seeding is less expensive upfront, making it a more budget-friendly option. It also provides a much broader selection of grass varieties, allowing you to choose the best type for your specific climate and soil. Additionally, seeding allows grass roots to establish directly in the native soil, and the installation process is typically less labor-intensive than sodding. However, it's important to consider that sod offers better immediate protection against weeds and erosion.

When stored under ideal conditions, grass seed lasts anywhere from 10 to 18 months from the testing date without any real decrease in the germination rate. You can still use the seeds after this timeframe, but the germination rates drop 10% to 20% each year.

If you’re just embarking on an overseeding project, using seeds that have been in storage for a few years isn’t too big of a deal. However, if you’re planning on redoing your entire landscape, your best bet for a healthy, luscious lawn is to use new seeds.

Planting grass from seed requires time to grow before it can handle even light foot traffic. Most varieties require a minimum of three months before you can walk on them regularly. You can expect to wait at least one year before your lawn can hold up to heavy use. Because sod is already established, it can be walked on more quickly than grass planted from seed.
