"Thank goodness for Mastero Edgar, his family and Crew! It was a dark and stormy night in Feb 2021, icy yard and flooded basement. We had cleared our septic tank 3 months prior and the basement flooded with clean water! We had hired a plumbing company 2 nights in a row...no clear answers despite hours of work!! Then I reached Angie.. Mr. Edgars daughter , Mr. Edgar overheard me, and spoke to me at 8:45 pm... on a Saturday night !!!! He did not have to... but he did. He found the problem....the following day I watched the most synchronized orchestra by the team ! Still mesmerized by the way the work was carried out! I work in health care, I am a business woman and I love classical music! Let me tell you all, their work is innovative! My husband and I live in peace after those 3 agonizing days... knowing that there are angles out there and then there is Mastero Edgar, his family and crew! Clean, professional, affordable. Mr. Edgar, thanks again for the reminder to “go an extra mile” when I care for my clients! Regards, Grace Paul. Rockville, MD"

"Very professional from beginning to end. The consultation was informative, he was very thorough in explaining technique and required equipment for my project. The job was well orchestrated; he contracted other companies that removed the old boiler and oil tank, each company was wonderful; conscience of my property (no damage), friendly and efficient. Amazing designed my heating system and it is truly a work or art. The location of the boiler, lines for gas, water- they were compacted into an area that allowed access and extra space for personal effects. Amazing, the company is named right!!! Highly recommend"

"I contacted John because the discharge pipe for my sump pump was frozen, causing the pump to run continuously. The guy who installed the discharge pipe decided he couldn't be bothered to help me, meaning I was up the creek without a paddle. I took a few drastic actions to temporarily fix things and then contacted John about longer term solutions.
At first we sent a few messages back and forth to make sure it wasn't a dire emergency. He was extremely quick to respond via the Angie's list messages. He came out at 9 AM on a Saturday for a free estimate. He also took a look at some piping in my basement and warned me it wasn't up to code (another plumber said the same thing, but in a different spot). I was worried about what price he was going to give me, but was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't even over a grand for materials and labor.
John seems like a great guy who is willing to help out his customers in any way he can. He has gone the extra mile for me so far, and I haven't even paid him a penny! If only there were more people like him, willing to take the time to not only fix things, but educate their customers. He definitely deserves an "A"!

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Ideally, you should conduct a mechanical inspection and a bacterial or well water inspection yearly. While you might be able to push it off to every other year, it’s best to have peace of mind, especially when it comes to something that you use so frequently.

If you experience repeated gastrointestinal illness in the household, it's important to test the well water more regularly for quality and cleanliness to check for bacteria.

To prevent septic tank problems, save on repair costs, and keep your home running smoothly, it's essential to perform regular maintenance. Have your septic system inspected by a professional every one to three years, or annually if possible, to spot potential issues before they develop. You should also have your tank pumped every three to five years, or more frequently if recommended by a professional based on your household's usage. Additionally, be mindful of what goes into your system. Avoid flushing items like paper towels, wet wipes, and feminine hygiene products. Do not dispose of other inappropriate substances, and try to avoid excessive water usage at a single time.

Soda, coffee, and other soft drinks are highly acidic. This affects the pH in septic tanks, causing them to require more frequent pumping. However, a vast majority of people don't need to worry about septic system disruption. Pouring out the occasional flat soda doesn’t affect septic systems to the same degree as the high-volume dumping from restaurants and convenience stores.

There are a couple of ways you can determine the depth of your well. One method is to use a device called a well sounder. This tool has a long measuring tape containing a sensor to alert you once the end reaches the water.

Or you can DIY it by using a long tape measure with a half-filled bottle of water attached to it. Lower the tape measure into your well. Once you feel tension on the tape, you’ll know the bottle has reached your static water level. This will give you an approximate idea of your well’s depth.

Neither system is necessarily better or worse than the other, but one of the two might be better for your needs. For example, anaerobic systems are less expensive than aerobic ones and don’t use power to run. On the other hand, aerobic septic systems don’t take up as much space and are typically more efficient than their anaerobic counterparts.
