"The group at Tim Kyle Electric are always on time and professional. The prices are satisfactory, but you get what you pay for and I have yet to be disappointed. Quick, clean, and I have a quiet, working exhaust fan in the powder room."

"I initially hired this company because my radon fan outside of my house was making loud noises. I wanted someone to help me turn the fan off and needed an electrician. When I called them the receptionist told me she'd check with a technician to see if they could do that type of work before sending someone. She called me back immediately and sent someone to help. In the meantime I was able to find a way to turn the fan off myself. I called to see if I could cancel the service. She was very kind and was able to cancel the technician. I will use this company for future needs. I cannot honestly rate the work quality and value but wouldn't let me submit this review without completing."

"I can't say enough good things about Halo lighting. They were the electrical subcontractor on a new sunroom and deck we installed in the spring/summer of 2018. Their work was professional, fast, and of very high quality. Rodney was a pleasure to work with. Having seen how good his work was, we hired him to replace the pole light in our front yard, which had been broken by a contractor on a non-electrical job in 2017. It looked to be complex - running wiring through multiple brick and masonry walls, through an attic, and down a wall to the outlet. It turned out to be much easier when Rodney located the existing electrical line without even digging under the driveway. Rodney reduced the price to reflect the more limited scope of work even more than I suggested. It's a pleasure to work with a craftsman who does great work and is as concerned as much about honesty and fairness as he is about his work."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

Ceiling fans are very often worth the investment because they improve comfort in your living space and help reduce utility bills. In the late spring and early fall—and even in the summer in some areas—homeowners with ceiling fans can often get away with open windows and fans, which can cut down on cooling bills and also reduce wear and tear on the HVAC system. Over time, ceiling fans can pay for themselves by saving you money on electric bills and air conditioner repair and maintenance.

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.
