In the meantime I was able to find a way to turn the fan off myself. I called to see if I could cancel the service. She was very kind and was able to cancel the technician. "The provider showed up on time and prepared.  There were some issues with the internal wiring of my house (1930s construction) that complicated installation.  He informed me of my two options -- one was to have the fan installed, but it could not be controlled by the wall switch, or the other was to rewire the wall switch and the wiring to the fan to allow the fan to be controlled by the wall switch -- at a substantial cost.  I liked that he was honest with my about my options rather than merely stating it would cost me extra to install the fan, given the age/condition of the wiring.

"Everything went very well. The movers were friendly and cordial and worked hard. They were careful to put things in the truck in the right order and got almost everything in in one go. With the help of my son the work was done in about 3 hours. Only once they were a bit overly enthusiastic and hit the ceiling with a cabinet they were carrying upstairs, but the damage was minimal. They removed hardware when needed and made sure things were put in the right places (I had labeled things with colored tape which helped). I would definitely recommend their service to my friends. It was a pleasure to work with them.
