"We hired Kitchen Savers to help remodel our kitchen. After a few delays due to COVID-19, work got under way June 1st. Hasan the installer was awesome. He spent 5 days in a row with us doing demolition, resurfacing the cabinets, installing the new oven/microwave, crown molding, etc. Kitchen Savers was very professional and nicely orchestrated their subcontractors (Rock Tops for the countertops, electrician for the under cabinet lighting, plumber to install the sink and garbage disposal, etc.). We are very pleased with the workmanship and the final outcome. Even when we had an issue with one of the cabinet doors a few weeks later, Kitchen Savers sent out a workman to rehang the door with a double hinge and solved the issue free of charge. The only negative comment is that while Kitchen Savers works with subcontractors for certain things (i.e. countertops, etc.), that is where things end. So you have new cabinets and new countertops, but no backsplash. That's kind of crazy. If you want a backsplash or wall tile between the countertops and cabinets, you are on your own to fine another contractor. Likewise for flooring. This caused some issues as our floor contractor wanted to demo the floor before the cabinet work was done and we had to do a bit of juggling. It would have been nice to have one main contractor who organized and scheduled all the subs."

"858 Flooring and Remodeling installed tile backsplash in our kitchen. The cost was very reasonable compared to some other companies. They behaved in a professional manner and did an excellent job. They took pains to avoid messing up the house, and they cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. They were even kind to our two dogs, who liked them immediately! I would recommend them very highly for kitchen and bath renovations."

"We had an interior pipe leak in our wall that caused extensive water damage in our basement. Thank goodness we called Rich to handle the remediation. He came promptly and he and his crew worked hours to do everything possible to limit the damage and enhance the drying effort. He had extensive equipment available to support his crew in all of this work. They removed the wet carpet and the damaged dry wall and wood framing, set up a containment area, installed dehumidifiers and recommended and then coordinated service from other excellent providers. Rich was extremely responsive and proactive - always checking in to see how everything was going. I recommend him and his service highly!!"

"Only positive comments!   Bill installed a sump pump we purchased for installation in an out-of-state rental home we own.  In addition to this job, we asked if he could add a second hole in our sump pump well cover to accommodate a discharge pipe for a back up sump pump we previously installed.  Following completion of these jobs, he took the time to strap our main discharge pipe between studs in the basement to reduce movement when in operation and sent us photos of his work.  He was easy to contact and communicate with on this project.  He was friendly, professional and accommodating.  His rates were fair and honest.  We will definitely call Smithwright Home Improvement Services for future projects.  Thanks Bill!

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

For glass tile, you want to use unsanded grout. Sanded grout is a stronger and grittier cement grout that is great for installing tiles with wider gaps and into joints. However, it is susceptible to scratching glass tile and is more difficult to use in thinner gaps. Unsanded grout, while more expensive, is easier to fit between thin gaps and is less harsh on delicate materials, like glass tile.

If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.

Common problems include cracks, loose tiles, and grout discoloration. Proper maintenance prevents many issues.

The process takes two to four days, depending on the size of the area and your experience level. The first day involves assessing and prepping the existing tile, while the second day is for laying the new tile. This may take longer in complex areas. After letting the adhesive dry for 24 hours, grouting and sealing can be completed on day three. For larger projects or intricate tile patterns, expect the timeline to stretch a bit longer. Also, proper drying time between steps is essential for long-lasting results, which extends the project’s time.

Yes, cracked tiles allow water to seep through the substrate or subfloor, leading to mold and mildew growth. It can also cause severe structural damage. At the very least, water damage can cause your tile to lift from the substrate, meaning one cracked tile can lead to several cracked tiles. It’s a good idea to waterproof tile in areas with direct water exposure or lots of moisture.
